With the rapid development of China’s economy in recent years,China’s international status is already at the forefront of the world.The world is paying more attention to China and more and more foreigners have a great interest in China.To be able to understand China,you have to learn its language.Therefore,it is not surprising that "Chinese fever" has become a trend in the world.Kyiv Oriental gymnasium №1 is the earliest and most experienced school in Ukraine which implemented teaching Chinese in Ukraine and it is establishing a cultural exchange bridge between China and Ukraine.A large number of professionals in Ukraine publish English,German,French,Spanish and other languages’ teaching materials for schools,but there are none of them who publish Chinese teaching materials.Ukrainian ministry of education also has no plan for publishing Ukrainian localized Chinese teaching materials.Secondary schools with Chinese courses have long been using textbooks written in China which have not been adapted for foreign students.Ukrainian educators tried to solve this problem with their own resources and abilities and began to write their own textbooks,thus appeared “Chinese Textbook”.Owing to the good teaching practice and use of these textbooks,students almost every year were able to win prizes and get good grades in international Chinese competitions such as Chinese Bridge.This paper compares two textbooks “Chinese New Beginning”(Level 5,Russian edition)and "Chinese Textbook"(of Kyiv Oriental gymnasium №1,grade five).I hope this work will provide useful data and suggestions for improvement and modification of the Chinese teaching materials in Ukraine,and will be used for reference.The first chapter of this thesis is the introduction part,including research status abroad and at home,research methods,purpose and significance of the topic selection,innovations and deficiencies,etc.The second chapter analyzes the characteristics of Ukrainian fifth grade learners and discusses circumstances of learning Chinese in primary and secondary schools in Ukraine.The third chapter compares and summarizes all aspects of "Chinese textbook”(grade five)in details.The fourth chapter describes in detail the advantages and disadvantages of using two kinds of teaching materials in the teaching classroom and analyzes the commonalities and differences between them.The fifth chapter extends from the improvement suggestions on teaching materials to thematic teaching method and combines it with the actual teaching plan.The author’s mother,Ukrainian Chinese teacher with more than thirty years of teaching experience in Kyiv Oriental gymnasium №1,author of the “Chinese textbook” was continuously summing up and passing on teaching experience to the author.Writing down and passing on this knowledge to other Chinese educators is also one of the main motivations for author to make this research.
