Tao Xingzhi is a world-renowned educator who had studied in the world-famous university-the University of Illinois and Columbia University.The process of the formation of his early education thoughts has been basically clear after many years of discussion in the academic circles,but there are some key issues that are still insufficient.For example,who his doctoral dissertation instructor in the United States was actually questions people.Many researchers believe that Dewey was a mentor during Tao Xingzhi's studies at Columbia University.In fact,Strayer was the mentor of Tao Xingzhi during his studies at Columbia University.Strayer and Tao Xingzhi's relationship is often overlooked.For this reason,this article first introduces Strayer,and then elucidates his influence on Tao Xingzhi from four aspects:basic educational perspective,educational psychology,educational administration and empirical research methods.In terms of basic educational perspectives,it mainly discusses the educational purposes and moral education concepts;in educational psychology,it focuses on Tao Xingzhi's inheritance of Strayer's view of appreciation,attention and interest,and individual differences;The concept and practice of educational administration of Strayer and Tao Xingzhi are briefly described;in the empirical research methods of education,Strayer 's influence on Tao Xingzhi is discussed in terms of measurement,statistics and investigation.Starting from the relationship between Strayer and Tao Xingzhi,we found out that the Scientism Empiricalism represented by Thorndike influenced Tao Xingzhi and Chinese students studying abroad at Columbia University,Harvard University,University of Chicago and Stanford University,etc.The empirical educational ideas were disseminated to Chinese students by a group of Thorndike's disciples such as Strayer and McCall.Under the influence of a series of factors such as the active participation of the Chinease students in the United States,the tradition of empirical educational research can be formed in modern China.From 1914 to 1949,empirical research in education continued to develop in China.After the establishment of the Republic,this tradition was interrupted on the mainland,and the Hong Kong and Taiwan regions inherited this tradition well.The current empirical research on education in our country is well known and worth looking forward to.
