Tao Xingzhi is a famous modern Chinese educator, statesman, ideologist, he advocated to develop the students’genuine, kind and fair character for the purpose of education, the creation of living educational theory, created educational theory and the rural education theory imply a wealth of mental health educational ideologies, these theories are still important in today’s education guides. The formation of Tao’s mental health education has its specific historical background, theoretical sources and empirical basis. The content of Tao’s mental health education is very rich, this paper systematically sorts out its important parts, including five parts, the study of psychological guidance, emotional education, leisure education, character education and creativity education. Tao’s mental health education ideologies have distinctive and main features:First, the ideologies based on civilian education experience, integration of traditional Western psychology education, to build a complete system of mental health education; Second, Tao broadens the penetration of mental health education and the implementation of the method by optimizing the environment, self-government, collective living, labor education, discipline and other channels; Third, Tao adheres to the unity of episteme, affection and volition, respects the subjectivity of students and individualized education as mental health principles; Forth, Tao develops students’ intellect, benevolence, braveness, sincerity, kindness and fairness for the purpose of mental health education. By comparing the mental health education ideologies of Tao Xingzhi and his contemporaries (especially Liang Shuming), Tao has created an unprecedented mental health education theory, and it is a remarkable treasures. Because of the era condition, social background and other objective factors, there are some inevitable problems in the Tao’s mental health education ideologies, but the problems don’t affect it’s pivotal position in the history of education and the theory still leaves infinite developing space. The paper on Tao’s mental health education has an important revelation in improving today’s mental health educational theory and guiding educational practice.
