This study focuses on children's characteristics and level of interaction in role play.144 children of a Nanjing nursery school were selected as the research objects. In this study,we preset a similar role-play circumstance like the one in class corner activities.Children's acts on spot are all recorded and encoded,and we have quantitative and qualitative outcomes after analysed the acts.Firstly,the interacting levels of three grade children are exploited quantitatively.Based on the performance of children in play,according to the quantities and nature of symols exchanged between both sides in the play circumstance, children's behaviour can be devided into three types and five levesmon-interactive behaviour (omni-directional behaviour),quasi-interaction(one-sided directing & respond only when spoken to' behaviour)and interactive behaviour(simple communication&multipled communication).Each grade students present various difference in each level.Illustrated with case studies,Meta-interaction theory and Role Theory,we try to explain the occurrence and differences of preschool interactions in play.In the course of play, materials,play characters,plots,game rules and game themes are all the interaction media of children.Factors may influence children's interaction level are also discussed,like gender,pesonality and experience.Having known about the various levels of interaction of different grade children,teachers have lots to do to better guide play activities.They are expected to oberseve and respect the individual differences in interaction;keep a close eye on the hotspot of interaction,grasp specific opportunity to give situatible instructional intervention; Create role experience circumstance to train childrens' "perspective taking" ability;Provide mixed-age communication environment which is good to exchange cross-age experiences.
