Map is the second language of geography, and maps have an undoubted important position in the expression, transmission and extraction of geographical elements. The ability of people to extract information from maps and analyze them is the ability to read geographical maps.It is an important condition for people to effectively extract and successfully receive map information. Therefore,we should pay attention to the cultivation of students' geographic reading ability in geography teaching. The cultivation of traditional geographic map reading ability generally depends only on personal knowledge reserves and reading experience. This dissertation studies the cultivation of high school students' geographic reading ability from the principle of gestalt, which is closely related to the design of maps. The study is as follows:(1)Through literature review, the research background and significance of the improvement of reading ability under the guidance of the Gestalt principle are determined. After consulting the literature,we can see that the Gestalt principle is more widely used in combination with other disciplines such as Chinese, mathematics, and fine arts. It's application results in various disciplines provide new ideas and methods for the application of Gestalt principles in geography teaching.(2)The variety of maps and the wide range of applications require people to have a certain map reading ability.Geography reading capabilities are included in map capabilities.Maps capabilities include the ability to read maps, analyze maps, and use maps.Geographic map reading capabilities mainly include the ability to understand and understand geographic images.Among them, the cognitive ability of geographic images includes the ability to memorize geographic image information and the ability to acquire information at the map level.Comprehension of maps is the ability to obtain hidden information from maps. The theory related to the development of geographic reading ability is rich, including Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, constructivism, discovery learning theory, information processing theory, and Gestalt psychology which is the most closely related to this paper. The relationship between the Gestalt principle and the symbols that constitute the map is the main research content of this paper.By analyzing the application of the Gestalt principle in the map design, the map symbol and the spatial perception of the map reader are combined to cultivate students. The spatial cognitive ability to enhance students' geographic reading ability. The galaxy principle is applied to the cultivation of geographical map reading ability in reverse. From the point of view of map design, the galaxy principle has a certain feasibility and scientificity to enhance the reading ability.(3)A survey of high school students' geographic reading ability was conducted to understand the current status of high school students' geographic reading ability. The design and application of reading methods and strategies are based on a certain understanding of high school students' mastery of reading methods and strategies.Through the analysis of questionnaires and interview records,it is found that some of the major problems in high school students' geographic reading ability are the lack of reading initiative, lack of map cognitive ability, and lack of understanding of maps.Reflecting the lack of reading skills, the memory and reproducibility of the map elements are weak, making it difficult to extract the information in the map.The reasons for the above problems are: the students did not master the effective drawing method, and the students' habit ofreading pictures was not formed;the teachers lacked the teaching of concise reading methods;the students could not connect the map information with the knowledge of the learned geography and it is difficult to apply knowledge flexibly to explain various geographic phenomena.(4)This dissertation adopts methods of literature research, questionnaire survey, case analysis and comparative experiment to extract the method of gestalt principle in the cultivation of geographical map reading ability.Using the characteristics of perceptual selectivity, comprehension, and integrity,we obtained such methods as the distinction between map images and background, the combination of map neighboring elements, the extraction of similar things, the simplification of graphical symbols, and the gestalt of maps.(5)After the formation of the mapping method,in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of learning, combined with the above methods and the survey of high school students' ability to read maps, from the cognition of the map,the adjustment of the understanding map process and the use of map-related resources, etc.,Summarized the formation of a geographical map strategy. These strategies include playing the role of a teacher, combining the knowledge learned, selecting the principles of the Gestalt, and applying it to the practice of drawing and drawing. The methods and strategies summarized are also applied flexibly to everyday teaching. The principle of gestalt is infiltrated in the lectures and exercises in the new lectures, and presented in the thesis research in the form of cases.(6)In order to verify the role of the Gestalt principle in cultivating geographic reading ability, the author conducted a teaching experiment in teaching practice.Using the two classes with similar initial status as the control experiment, the graph reading method and strategy under the guidance of the Gestalt principle are used to read the graph in the experimental class, and the traditional exercises are still used in the control class.By collecting and processing the scores of the two classes before and after the application of the new method,it is verified that the Gestalt principle promotes the development of geography reading ability.
