Academic libraries,as the information center,have undertaken the education function of'training talents and improving students' information literacy with rich collection resources.The undergraduates who majored in basic subjects are the important using population.However,the paper collections are facing an increasing difficult situation as the reason of the rapid digitalization and intellectualization of literature resources,and the existence value is being questioned.In fact,it was difficult for libraries to determine the value of paper collections through the statistical analysis directly,but it could be reflected by the correlation of students' paper collections to academic performance.There is no doubt that the undergraduates,as the biggest borrower of paper collections,had differentiated characteristics of information needs vary from subject to academic year.Consequently,based on the course grades and borrowing data,an empirical study on the correlation and difference between undergraduate academic performance and borrowing behavior was demonstrated is practically significance,not only for the construction of paper collections,but for the optimization of teaching support services.This research selected four different subjects' college graduates of 2011 as the object of empirical research,relied on the research methods of bibliometric analysis and comparative analysis.The empirical study on the correlation and difference between undergraduate academic performance and borrowing behavior were carried out on the basis of borrowing quotas,literature categories,borrowing time and borrowing periods.The correlation characteristics between academic performance and borrowing behavior of undergraduates are as follows:Firstly,there is a positive correlation between the borrowing"quantity" and academic performance "quality",it was demonstrated that the paper collections played an important role in improving the teaching quality and effect.Secondly,both the borrowing scope and depth had positive effects on the academic performance,professional literatures and multi-type literatures contributed to the improvement of academic performance.Thirdly,there is a positive correlation between the stable borrowing habits and academic performance,the "pre-test borrowing" manner was not conducive to the improvement of academic performance;Fourthly,the academic performance and the borrowing period presented negative correlation characteristics,there is a high proportion of short-term borrowings among the low-level academic performance.The characteristics of disciplinary difference between academic performance and borrowing behavior of undergraduates are significant:First of all,academic performance and borrowing quotas shows the obvious characteristics of subject difference,where the quotas of basic-theory undergraduates is higher than that of applied undergraduates.At the second place,there is disciplinary difference between the literature categories and academic performance,the central tendency of Nature Science's undergraduate borrowings is obvious.For another,the distribution of borrowing date and academic performance presents the prominent characteristics of disciplinary difference,the distribution of the basic-theory undergraduater shows bigger volatile.Last but not the least,there is disciplinary difference between the borrowing periods and academic performance,the average utilization periods of Nature Science undergraduates is higher than that of Social Science undergraduates.The characteristics of academic year difference between academic performance and borrowing behavior of undergraduates are significant:First of all,academic performance and borrowing quotas shows obvious characteristics of academic year difference.The average number of borrowing books of the high academic performance level groups increased in the second academic year and then declined year by year and the borrowing behavior was relatively stable.However,the average number of borrowing books of the D-group declined year by year and the borrowing volatility was greater.At the second place,there was academic year difference between the literature categories and academic performance.As the school year progresses,the literature categories gradually change from personal interests and basic disciplines to professional related literatures,and the concentration trends become more and more obvious.The comprehensive research of the characteristics of correlation and difference indicates that:the academic libraries should focus on the specialty and general characteristics of personal training and further strengthenthe collection of literature resources in the cultivation of students'comprehensive quality.The paper also improves the utilization rate and value of paper collection resources through dynamic and rational allocation of the literature resource structure and content mining.Fourthermore,the depth and breadth should be expanded to promote the publicity and traditional reading services.Based on the individual characteristics of readers's needs,dynamically adjusting the means of service promotion,construct specialized branch libraries,conduct targeted information literacy education services can play an important supporting role in undergraduate teaching.Carrying out empirica research on the correlation between academic performance and borrowing behavior of undergraduates is of great practical significance for the quantitative evaluation of the teaching support of paper-based collections in academic libraries and the combing of the empirical research on teaching support services.First,to clarify and measure the contribution of paper collection resources to the teaching of undergraduates in the digital environment,to reveal the general rules and characteristics of borrowing behaviors of different groups so that we can provide the reality for undergraduate teaching support services and the optimization of paper collection resources support and data reference.Secondly,to carry out empirical research from the perspective of undergraduate academic performance and borrowing behavior will help to enrich the empirical research of undergraduate teaching support services in academic libraries,and provide reference for related research work in colleges and universities.
