The classification of universities is a hot topic of higher education system,different agencies and international scholars have carried out research from different angles,the classification of the characteristic theory and classification are emerging in endlessly.Still now,no unified classification standards were formed,because the big differences between political situation,economic development situation and background of the higher education of every region.The research of classification of universities in China began in 2003 or so,in the process of popularization of higher education,institutions of universities has increased rapidly,but behind the rapid expansion of the existing phenomenon of homogeneity,many similar universities who hindered the development of diversified higher education.The gross enrollment rate of Guangxi general higher education reached 14% in2004,entered the period of popularization of higher education,the gross enrollment rate was risen to 27.3% in 2014,their are great changes in the number and institutions of universities.On the basis of the enactment of the policy plan such as The Ministry of Education's Opinion on the Establishment of Higher Schools During the 13 th Five-year Plan Period,Outline of the Reform and Development Plan of Education in Guangxi zhuang Autonomous Region(2010-2020)and the Implementation Plan of the Enhance Basic and Innovate of Guangxi Higher Education can be see that,the government attaches great importance to the classification and development of colleges and universities in recent years.This study take it as an opportunity,collect and analyze the relevant behavioral characteristics data of Guangxi ordinary undergraduate institutions through the non-intervention method,reference the classification theories and classification methods at domestic and foreign,determine the classification dimension and standard of Guangxi ordinary undergraduate institutions,try to establish a descriptive classification framework covering 24 ordinary universities in guangxi,provide suggestions for the classification development of colleges and universities.This study consists of the following six parts:The first part mainly elaborates the source of the topic,sorting an analysis the research status on domestic and foreign,clear the significance of theoretical and practical in this study,illustrate the main use of research methods.The second part explain the theoretical reason of this research before defines the core concepts which are “ordinary undergraduate universities”,“classification”,“classification of universities”.The third part in the review of related research at domestic and foreign,this study wants to build a descriptive classification framework,so I choose Carnegie Classifications of Higher Institutions and U-map for detailed analysis,domestic scholars on the classification of higher universities is complex,so choose some representative theories.The fourth part analyzes the classification status and influencing factors of Guangxi universities,there have 74 general institutes of higher education,including 24 ordinary undergraduate course universities,12 independent colleges,and 38 in higher vocational colleges,and the classification of major in universities which is dominated by the government stipulation classification as the main body,there are separate classification method,and the problem of classification index fuzzy classification of Guangxi universities classification influence of subjective and objective factors such as geographical location and historical evolution,set of disciplines,the development of higher education system,policy guidance,regional economic and social development.The fifth part is determine the classification framework.Based on the above basis,this research based on diversification,dynamics and localization,according to two aspects of academic and non-academic selected the degree awarding,the teachers level,subject level,scientific research,scientific research platform,the scale of higher education,subject to cover the classification of the classification of 7 dimensions and 25 indicators,try to establish a descriptive classification framework.Basis of academic divided into research universities,teaching research institutions and application-oriented colleges,each type of universities is divided into ? type and ? type;According to the scale of the school divided into three types:large-scale,medium-scale and small-scale;it is divided into comprehensive,multi-disciplinary and professional schools according to subject coverage.The final part based on the classification results puts forward the classification and development proposal of guangxi higher education.Promote the development of universities classification is the most important purpose for classification of universities,the government's decision-making and universities own development route is very important.Different universities needs different evaluation indexes because of the diversity of institutions of university.For themselves of universities,only in the development of their own characteristics can better improve the enhance strength and competitiveness.
