The art education at elementary school in China has entered a new era since 2000.Under the impetus of the new curriculum reform,the art education at elementary schools in Zhenjiang District Shaoguan City has already made great progress.With the further development of the elementary education curriculum reform,the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China has promulgated the "Art Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition)",which provides more explicit guidelines for art education at elementary stage.In order to understand the current state of art education at the elementary schools of the Zhenjiang District,the article takes the reform of art curriculum as the background,and studies 21 elementary schools and 33 art teachers and some elementary school students in Zhenjiang District,Shaoguan City.According to the “Art Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition),the "Basic Criteria for the Work of Art Education in Primary and Secondary Schools in Guangdong Province(Trial)" and other related standards and regulations,this paper employs the following methods including the use of observation methods,interviews,questionnaires,and data analysis to investigate and do research on the status quo of the implementation of arts courses,the allocation of teachers for arts,art classroom teaching,arts teaching equipment and facilities and so on in the primary schools of Zhenjiang District.In spite of the great progress of art education in Shaoguan City,there are still many problems and contradictions,just as follows,the contradiction between the full implementation of art teaching and the shortage of art teachers,the contradiction between the single teaching model and the cultivation of students' learning ability and more attention paid to skills,thus less to emotional attitudes and values.Through combing and analyzing the subjective and objective causes of the problems,the paper proposes a targeted approach to balance the disciplinary and humanistic goals to achieve art teaching,integrate local culture to enrich art teaching content,create active teaching models to activate art classes,and multiple interactive art.Learning evaluation model promotes growth and multi-paths promotes the development of elementary school art teachers.The specific countermeasures to improve the status quo of elementary school arts teaching in the Zhenjiang District are designed to provide practical suggestions for art teachers in the primary schools of Zhenjiang District and explore new teaching methods for art education.
