A Study On Student As Consumer Of Education In Consumer Culture Perspective

The prevalence of consumer culture makes the whole society incline to regard consumption as a life style increasingly.People measure their living standards by the amount of money and consumption they acquired habitually in consumer culture perspective.The instrumental value that can be measured and calculated dominate in our social life.Consumer culture makes us try to satisfy our needs with material constantly,while ignoring the inner pursuit of value and life.Consumer culture has been involved in all aspects of our lives and it will bring profound changes in education field inevitably.More and more people start to look school education as an investment in order to get rich profit;teaching activities also replaced by endless examinations and quantitative tests;knowledge is regarded as commodity that can be selected,purchased and consumed;teacher's profession is no longer a cause of teaching and educating,but reduced to skill trainers.A series of profound changes taking place in the education field tells us that the consumerization trends and features of education are becoming more and more obvious.Consumer culture resulted in the consumption of education,which not only goes against the original purpose of education,but also changes the identity of students.Students used to be educatees that make great efforts to realize their excellent virtue and outstanding soul,but now they only wants to become a successful consumer and improve their ability of consumption.There is a serious departure between student image as consumer of education and the original image of student.We should reiterate the purpose of education and reshape student image as an educated man in consumer culture perspective.According to the interpretation of consumer culture,this study intends to analyze the manifestation of education consumption in perspective of cultural criticism,thus to locate the identity of student as consumer of education,and further expounds the life style of student as consumer of education and the resulting serious consequences,finally from the essence of education,this study interprets the quality and image of an educated person in the philosophy of education perspective.
