This study attempts to apply the performance assessment to the important concepts of high school biology,and to evaluate students'important concepts through the overt behavior of students.The purpose is to expand the evaluation methods of important concepts,to promote the acquisition of important concepts of students and to solve the difficult problems of the New Curriculum Reform of biology.This thesis is based on constructive learning theory,multiple intelligence theory and situational cognitive learning theory.The author taught and researched in class5 and class8,senior two of Kunming No.3 middle school,science class1,senior two of Chenggong branch of the Affiliated Middle School of Yunnan University by using the methods of literature research,experiments,surveys,observations and so on.This study selected four important concepts from biological compulsory 2:“the experiment of T2 phage infections of Escherichia coli”that proves the important concept of“DNA is the genetic material”,“the central dogma”,“the chromosomal variation”and“immunoregulation”from compulsory 3.Furthermore,the corresponding performance assessment rubrics is formulated according to the characteristics of the four important concepts.Finally,the performance assessment rubrics is applied to the actual biology teaching to judge the students'important concepts by evaluating the work after students accomplishing the performance assessment task.The following conclusions can be drawn from the study:firstly,it is feasible to use performance assessment to promote students'important concepts of biology;Secondly,the performance assessment has an obvious effect on the long-term retention of important concepts;Thirdly,the performance assessment of important concepts promotes the all-round development of students'abilities;Fourthly,the corresponding training of performance assessment tasks is the basis of performance assessment;Finally,this study expands the way of evaluation and consolidation methods of important concepts and should be popularized and used.This study suggests that the use of performance assessment tools can be varied,the related homework can be reducedwhen using the performance assessment to consolidate the study,and the performance assessment task type can be diversified.
