After entering the twenty-first century, statistical education has attracted more and more attention. Many countries have also stepped up the revision of statistical contents in primary and secondary schools mathematics. With the increasing demand for statistical education, higher requirements for teaching materials and teachers' teaching ability have been put forward. This paper will study curricular progression of statistical content in primary and secondary schools mathematics. This study can provide new design ideas for the textbook writers, and help teachers to grasp the overall content of statistics and optimize the design of teaching. The main research question in this paper is how do statistical contents develop in school mathematics? There are two specific research questions:(1)what are the core contents of statistics in school mathematics?(2)how do the core contents of statistics develop in school mathematics ?This paper is a qualitative research, including content analysis and interview. The content analysis method is divided into two parts. One is the literature analysis about the educational value about statistics, variability, the relation of statistics and probability, the concept of statistics and the development of students' cognition, and the two is curriculum comparison of the curriculum standard of high school and compulsory education in the United States,in the United Kingdom,in Singapore,in Australia,in China and in Shanghai.According to the results of the two parts, the progression of statistical content is proposed. There are 8 interviewees, including mathematics professors(statistics, algebra),college mathematics education researchers, textbook writers and senior high school mathematics teachers. The purpose of interview is to discuss some problems in proposed progression and revise proposed progression. The results obtained in this study are as follows:(1)the core contents of statistics include data, center, variation, distribution, random sampling, sample estimation, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression analysis. The answer to the question(2)is detailed in Figure 13-17 in this article. The arrangement of statistical contents from left to right, from bottom to top reflects the development of statistical content from simple to complex. At the same time, this study also explored the development of variability. |
