With the improvement of people's living quality and the higher requirements of their children's education, private educational institutions have become an important type of educational institutions.Taking Xuhui District,Shanghai as the study area, this research obtained the data about educational institutions from the ‘DianPing'website.Based on various types of data including quality evaluation of institutions derived from the ‘DianPing' and travel characteristics of residents from the survey, this research analyzes the variation of residents' accessibility to private educational services by age.The achievements of this research are concluded as follows:Firstly, the public's preferences for private educational institutions are analyzed.People are inclined to choose institutions with a good reputation, high evaluation and short travel time. The choice of transport modes and acceptable travel time varies across children with different ages.Hence, this research calculates the accessibility by age and transportation mode.Secondly, this dissertation proposes an accessibility evaluation method based on social media data.A program is developed to obtain the online data on educational institutions dynamically, which is applied to the evaluation of accessibility of private educational resources. The spatial pattern of the accessibility is also analyzed by Moran's I statistics. Finally,a site-selection method for private educational institutions based on social media data is proposed.Using the market share as the basis to evaluate the new site of private educational institutions, this research employs the competitive business location model which is constrained by users' demands, market competition and distance decay.By analyzing different scenarios, this research made suggestions for site selection of new private educational institutions. The results of this study could provide more comprehensive and meaningful decision support for urban residents and institutional investors. The method proposedin this research can also provide a new perspective for research on accessibility, which has practical implications in analyzing the spatial pattern of private educational resources.
