As the carrier of knowledge, teaching material is a tool for the cultivation of talents in various countries, and its quality directly affects the success or failure of education. At the same time, the content of "Electrochemistry" is a key knowledge in the principle of chemical reaction. The study of this part of knowledge involves the knowledge of solution ionization, redox reaction and so on,which is also a difficult point for students to learn.Through the comparison and analysis of the contents of "Electrochemistry" in the five versions of senior high school chemistry textbooks between China and the United States, this paper finds out the characteristics of the compiling of the textbooks in the two countries, and draws on the advantages of the compiling of the American chemistry textbooks in order to provide a reference for the compilation of senior high school chemistry textbooks.By comparing the background of the chemistry curriculum between the two countries,we can see that in primary school,American students know more about chemistry than our students, and American students also have a strong ability to observe and experiment.Judging from the curriculum standards of the two countries,The contents of "Electrochemistry" selected in the three editions of textbooks in China are consistent with the provisions of the Chemistry Curriculum Standard, but in the American Curriculum Standards, there are no provisions related to the contents of "Electrochemistry".Based on the comparative analysis of the contents of "Electrochemistry" in senior high school chemistry textbooks between China and the United States, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)The contents of "Electrochemistry" in the three editions of textbooks in China are all relatively comprehensive. In terms of the arrangement of elective modules, the teaching materials of People’s Education Press and Jiangsu Education Publishing House are introduced according to the order of primary batteries and electrolytic cells. The two versions of American textbooks and textbook published by Shandong science and technology publishing house are introduced according to the order of electrolytic cells and primary batteries, and combined with the cognitive level of Chinese students. It can be seen that the arrangement order of human education edition and Su education edition is more conducive to the construction of students’ knowledge.(2)In the three editions of textbooks in China, most of them are thought and discussed columns, and they pay more attention to making students better understand and master knowledge through thinking and communication,as opposed to the American textbook “Chemistry: concepts and applications”.Our country teaching material lacks the student independent inquiry class column.(3)In the teaching material chart, most of the charts are used in the textbook “Chemistry: concepts and applications”,most of which are used in the aspects of life, production and science and technology. The other four versions of the textbook are mostly used in the aspects of model, theory and induction.(4)In the aspect of textbook exercises, the types of exercises in the three versions of textbooks in our country are all very rich, but compared with the two versions of American textbooks, the level of exercises still needs to be strengthened.Based on the above comparison and analysis of the contents of "Electrochemistry" in senior high school chemistry textbooks between China and the United States, several suggestions are put forward: strengthening the combination of chemical knowledge with social life, production and so on,attaching importance to the design of students’ experiments;perfecting the design of textbook illustrations and exercises.
