The conic section,as the basis of learning plane analytic geometry,is one of the difficulties of high school mathematics,while hyperbola is the difficulty of conic.Therefore,learning hyperbolic well is of great importance,for it will consolidate the elliptic learning and affect the parabola learning to a certain extent.However,years of teaching experience and the questionnaire survey suggests that both teachers and students have difficulty in dealing with this section of the hyperbolic since it concerns too many points and is not easy to understand.This paper is to research how to solve this problem.Adopting literature research method,investigation method and case analysis method and combining the variable type teaching psychology,pedagogy and other related theories,the paper sums up the basic forms and principles of applying the variable type teaching.In addition,applying the variable type teaching to the teaching of hyperbola,the paper analyses the knowledge points of the hyperbolic section,including the variable formula of the hyperbolic concept,the variable formula in the hyperbolic standard equation,the variant form of the hyperbola geometry and the variant of the hyperbolic problems.The teaching design of two periods of classroom activities about hyperbolic variable type teaching is given and is put into practice—taking "hyperbola and its standard equation" and "simple geometric nature of hyperbola" as examples.Finally,the paper presents some tips on how to apply the hyperbolic variable type teaching in teaching practice: pay attention to "teach students in accordance with their aptitude";avoid “exercises-stuffed teaching method",and take students as the main body in the teaching process.The study of hyperbolic variable type teaching suggests that this teaching method can improve teaching efficiency to a certain extent.Firstly,it is of great help to improve the current situation of the teaching of hyperbola and enables students to master the related knowledge of hyperbolic faster and more easily.Besides,it develops students' ability to think and create and encourages students to transfer them to the study of others contents.More importantly,the efficient learning method can develop their interest and confidence in learning mathematics.
