The boarding school is a special school model,which is carried out by our country to solve the difficulties of attending school and ensure the school-age children completing compulsory education.The building of the boarding school is beneficial to improve the local education quality.But in the meantime,the students not only study at the school,but also eat and sleep at the school,which may cause some problems.Since the birth of positive psychology,learning engagement is paid attention from many researchers.However,the main study sample in the past is the college student,few for middle school students,especially in boarding middle school students is less studied.Middle school students have great change in body and mind,at the same time,they face the academic pressure of the high school entrance exam,so all kinds of psychological problems may happen on them.The past studies show: Both social support and academic self-efficacy can positively predict learning engagement significantly.But few people explore the exact relationship among these three variables.So this study,with 771 Changyang town,Yichang city,four boarding middle school students as subjects,by using “the adolescents' social support scale,the academic self-efficacy scale,and learning engagement scale”,examines the status of learning engagement of middle school students and the role of social support on learning engagement---the mediation effect of academic self-efficacy.This study using relative statistical methods,analyses the effect of gender,grade,student cadre and school record these four demography variables on social support,academic self-efficacy,learning engagement and the relation and regression relationships among these three variables.The conclusions are as follows:?On social support,the seventh grade's students are significantly lower than the eighth and ninth grade's students;girls are significantly higher than boys;student cadres are significantly higher than those who are not student cadres;there is a significant difference among different school reports,and those students who have better grades,have the higher level of social support.?On academic self-efficacy,the eighth grade's students are higher than the seventh and ninth grade's students,but there is no significant difference;girls are higher than boys,but there is no significant difference;student cadres are significantly higher than those who are not student cadres;there is a significant difference among different school reports,and those students who have better grades,have the higher level of academic self-efficacy.?On learning engagement,the eighth grade's students are higher than the seventh and ninth grade's students,but there is no significant difference;girls are significantly higher than boys;student cadres are significantly higher than those who are not student cadres;there is a significant difference among different school reports,and those students who have better grades,have the higher level of learning engagement.?There are significant positive correlations between the various dimensions of social support,academic self-efficacy and learning engagement.?The level of social support and academic self-efficacy can significantly predict the level of learning engagement.Academic self-efficacy plays the role of mediation in the relationship of social support and learning engagement.The middle school students are at a special stage of life.We not only hope every student can make good grades,but also hope they can study happily and keep healthy of body and mind.For this aim and according to the study result of this thesis,the writer gives some education suggestions from improving social support and academic self-efficacy.
