A Study On Papers Published In International Authoritative Journals By The "Oversea Returnees" Teachers Of Economics In China

Since China's reform and opening up,the comprehensive national strength of China has been enhanced greatly in the past three decades.More and more overseas talents come back to work in colleges and universities in China.With a growing number of the “oversea returnee” teachers,there has been some changes in China's higher education on economics.The “oversea returnee” teachers play an important role in the progress of modernization and internationalization of China's economics education.I collect personal information of 902 “oversea returnee” teachers who are all the full-time teachers from the department of economics in China's “985 program” universities and “211 program” finance & economics universities from their curriculum vitae.Individual characteristics of the “oversea returnee” teachers include their sex and age.About their officeholding universities,I assign a ranking value to their universities.The “oversea returnee” teachers' education information,in the aspect of their doctor and bachelor graduating school,is also taken into account.This paper does a bibliometric analysis on 2074 English papers which are published in the international authoritative journals by the “oversea returnee” teachers.I analyze the annual number of English papers published during the period from 1990 to 2015.According to author's units in every publication,I distinguish the number of papers before and after the “oversea returnee” teachers take office in China's universities.According to a journals content of “tenure-track system” of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics,I classify papers into four different tiers and analyze the number of papers published in different journals.I calculate the total numbers of English papers published by every university.I also analyze changes in patterns of the number of coauthor,research fields,methodology and citations.By using the negative binominal regression,I analyze the impact of the personal information variables to the number of English papers published by “oversea returnee” teachers.In my conclusion,if the rankings of the doctor universities of the “oversea returnee” teachers are higher and the longer time they graduated,there would be more English papers published.There is no significant difference between the teachers who got a bachelor degree from the “985 and 211 program” universities and those from the “non-211 program” universities.However,the teachers who major in economic,management,science and engineering during their undergraduate period would publish more papers than those who major in other disciplines.In the robust tests,I replace the standard negative binomial regression by the zero-inflated negative binomial regression,and replace the dummy variable by the ranking of bachelor university.I also drop the data of the “oversea returnee” teachers whose doctor universities are from Hong Kong,Macao,and Taiwan.The results of three robust tests are similar to the previous regression.On the basis of descriptive statistics and empirical analysis,this paper gives some feasible proposals to reform China's universities' personal system of the “oversea returnee” teachers from two side of recruiting and using them,combining the successful experience of other universities.
