Education is the basic element for the progress and prosperity of one country.Promoting the development of education and generally improving the quality of the population are necessary conditions for strengthening national competitive power and social civilization. In 1960,Becker proposed an economic model in which the number and quality of children were replaced, opening a new perspective on micro-family research education. In 1981,Blake further explained this with the resource dilution theory, pointing out that the increase in the number of siblings led to a decrease in the share of family resources allocated to each child, which in turn had a negative impact on each child's educational achievement. This theory is supported by numerous empirical data, and there are some empirical studies that deny the substitution relationship between the number and quality of children. This shows the complexity of this problem.Based on the reality of the developing countries in China and the special family planning policy, the influence of the number of siblings in the family on the educational level of each child deserves our attention. In the past, there have been some gaps in the research in this area, which deserves further discussion. To develop education, and to pursue efficiency,we must also take into account the fairness of education. In China, the urban-rural differences in education have always existed, and the gender differences in education are also more prominent. The gender differences in education between urban and rural areas are more distinct. This paper considers the state of China's economic development, the changes in population and education policies, and the influence of traditional culture.Observe the changes in the educational level of individuals of different genders when the number of siblings in the family changes, and compare the urban-rural differences of this change. The main goal of this paper is to explore how the number of siblings and gender structure affect the level of education in urban and rural areas of China. This study mainly used the China Family Tracking Survey 2010 data(CFPS2010),together with the 2012 data(CFPS2012),the core explanatory variables are the number of siblings and sibling gender structure, the degree of education of the explanatory variables is the education years and the primary school is junior high school. The junior high school raises the middle and high school to the three-stage progression of the university, and collects information on the region, ethnicity, parental education, and family income as control variables in the database. The OLS and Logit methods are used to discuss the urban and rural areas affected by the sibling structure.difference.First,examine the impact of the number of siblings on the years of education, and focus on the impact of the number of siblings after the reform and opening up on the years of education. The gender of the first child is used as a tool variable to deal with endogenous problems.Second, study the impact of the increase in the number of siblings on the years of education of individuals of different genders, the number of brothers and the number of sisters on the number of years of education, and compare the urban-rural differences between these differences.Third, examine the urban-rural differences in the impact of the increase in the number of siblings on the three-stage progression of the individual, and observe the impact of the increase in the number of siblings on progression to school.Fourth, observe the influence of the increase in the number of siblings on the progression of men and women in different stages of progression, the influence of the number of brothers and the number of sisters on the progression of men and women, and compare the urban-rural differences of these influences.Through empirical analysis, the following conclusions can be drawn:First, the education years of the urban population in China and the rate of enrollment in all stages are much higher than those in rural areas. With the progression of the birth stage, the educational level and enrollment rate of the population in urban and rural areas have increased significantly.Second, the number of births after the reform and opening up,the increase in the number of siblings will have a negative impact on the years of education.Third, there is no significant gender difference in the years of education of the urban population and the status of progression to each stage. However, there are almost serious gender differences in the years of education and the progression of the rural population. The increase in the number of brothers in rural areas is the biggest squeeze on women's education, and the increase in the number of sisters may also increase the educational level of men.Fourth, apart from the fact that the urban sample of primary school and junior high school has sufficient resources and the number of siblings has no significant effect on progression, the increase in the number of siblings in the urban sample has a greater negative impact on education years and progression than the rural sample. In the middle stage of junior high school, with the progress of the period, the number of siblings in urban areas has a greater negative impact on the progression of higher education. The negative impact of the increase in the number of siblings in rural areas on schooling is getting smaller and smaller.
