| With the development of economy and society,gender inequality in education and regional inequality in education are on the decline,but rural women are still in a weak position in the process of receiving education.Education is the most important way to improve the level of human capital,and the accumulation of human capital is the decisive factor for sustained economic growth and the true source of industrial development.It is also an important way to improve the quality of family life.To study the impact of the number of brothers and sisters on rural women ’s educational attainment from a micro perspective,in order to provide experience for improving rural women ’s educational attainment and effectively increasing the stock of human capital in the new situation.Based on the relevant theories of labor economics,this article selects the data from the 2010 baseline survey of the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)conducted by the Chinese Social Science Survey Center of Peking University.The relationship between the number of siblings and female educational attainment has been studied in depth.In the study,rural women who have completed education are selected as the research object,a total of 8022 samples.Women education information,parent education and work information,and personal information of family members are used as various variables in the study.At the same time,the gender of the first child of the family is used as a tool variable to solve the endogenous problem.An empirical analysis of the impact of the number of siblings in rural households on women ’s educational years and access to opportunities for further education at different stages of education,and to observe the heterogeneity of the impact from three dimensions.The empirical results show that the number of siblings has a significant negative impact on rural women’s education as a whole.For each increase in the number of siblings,the number of years of education decreases by2.299 years,and the chances of entering a junior high school and junior high school are 16.8% and 16.7% lower.The negative impact of the number of siblings on rural women’s education is more pronounced in low-income areas,regions with stronger boy preference,and families with lower mother education levels.The research conclusions of this paper provide theoretical analysis for guaranteeing women ’s right to education,improving women ’s education level,and rationally allocating educational resources,which is conducive to further achieving gender equality in education,improving China ’s overall human capital stock,and complementing China ’s current shortcomings in human capital.Board to achieve a virtuous circle between education equality,income equity and economic development. |
