The relationship between homework behavior and students' academic achievement remains unclear.Homework time was often chosen as the main indicator of homework.Other indicators and the mediating role of personality were not considered.This paper investigated the relationship between homework behavior and academic achievement,as well as personality factors' mediating effect between them.The present paper investigated 700 junior middle school students using homework behavior questionnaire and the big-five inventory.And the results indicated that:(1)The correlation between personality and achievement is significant.Beside neuroticism,conscientiousness,openness,agreeableness,extraversion is significantly correlated with achievement.(2)All indicators of homework are correlated with achievement significantly.(3)Homework time has insignificant correlations with any dimension of big-five personality.(4)Homework completion is correlated positively with openness,agreeableness and conscientiousness.(5)Homework liking has significant-positive correlation with agreeableness and conscientiousness,and significant-negative correlation with neuroticism.(6)Homework effort has significant-positive correlation with agreeableness and conscientiousness,and significant-negative correlation with extraversion.(7)Conscientiousness and neuroticism play a mediating role between homework behavior and achievement.In order to further verify the mediating effect of personality and find asuitable intervention plan,two intervention experiments were conducted on the basis of a self-designed group counseling program.The results are as follows:(1)The group counseling program designed for responsibility and neuroticism is reasonable and effective.(2)The mediating effect of conscientiousness on the relationship completion is supported by the group counseling results.(3)The mediating effect of neuroticism on liking is also supported by the experimental results.Based on the above results,this paper recommends as follows:(1)While paying attention to academic achievement,the school should not neglect the cultivation of students' personality.Schools should make use of mental health lessons,ideological and political lessons to cultivate students' responsibility and improve their neuroticism.(2)The group counseling designed in the present paper can be used to improve junior high school students' responsibility and neuroticism.
