Alison Jaggar's Theory Of Female Alienation

Alison Jaggar(1943—)is a well-known American Marxist feminist philosopher,she has a lot of books,which the most important representative book is "Feminist Politics and the Human Nature" published in 1983.On the basis of Marx's alienation theory,Jagger explained the political values of feminism,analyzed the manifestations and causes of the phenomenon of female alienation in contemporary capitalist society,then put forward suggestions for social change,and put forward alienation theory different from classical Marxism.The full text is composed of four interrelated parts.The first part first introduces the background and significance of this topic,combs and summarizes the current research situation of this topic,points out the research methods and innovations of this paper,and finally discriminates the related concepts of feminism.The second part elaborates the background and theoretical origin of Jagger's theory of female alienation.It holds that Jagger's theory of female alienation is deeply rooted in the historical process of the continuous development of feminism.Marx's theory of alienated labor,the theory of "two kinds of production" and Western feminist thought provide important theoretical sources for the formation of Jagger's theory of female alienation.The third part,starting from the text,combs and elaborates the main content of Jagger's theory of gender alienation.Firstly,Jagger believed that women had experienced all-round alienation in capitalist society,including alienation of sexual object,maternity,mental intelligence and self-consciousness;secondly,Jagger analyzed the causes of women's alienation.She believed that economic exploitation and oppression,patriarchal system in society and ideological discrimination and restriction jointly caused women's differences.Finally,Jagger believes that in order to eliminate female alienation,we should start from four aspects: realizing reproductive freedom,safeguarding women's rights and interests,establishing women's organizations and cultivating women's consciousness.The fourth part evaluates and analyses Jagger'stheory of gender alienation and Its Enlightenment to the cause of women's liberation in contemporary China.Jagger's theory of gender alienation deepens her criticism of contemporary capitalist patriarchy.On the basis of summing up the previous feminist theories,she divides the main schools of feminism and explains her feminist views.More importantly,Jagger expands Marx's theory of alienation from the perspectives of gender and cultural consciousness.However,due to the limitations of theoretical standpoint,Jagger neglected that private ownership was the root cause of female alienation in the process of analyzing female alienation,and paid too much attention to female alienation,which led to some analysis being too extreme and absolute.In the past 40 years of reform and opening up,the status of women in many areas of social life has been significantly improved,but there is also a lot of room for development.Studying Jagger's theory of gender alienation has a certain reference significance for the cause of women's liberation in China.
