In the field of exercise physiology and sports medicine,there is a lot of research to prove that the physiological and biochemical benefits of high intensity interval training(HIIT)are similar or better than moderate intensity continuous exercise(MICT),despite a substantially lower time commitment and reduced total exercise volume.However,there is debate whether HIIT is more adaptability than MICT.This study compared affective response and executive function between HIIT and MICT.33 college students(16 male students,17 female students)participated in the current study.Each participant will perform both HIIT and MICT.HIIT consisted of ten 60s bouts of cycling at 85%HRR and ten 60s periods of recovery.one bout of MICT(20 min cycling at 50%HRR)in counterbalanced order.The Feeling Scale(FS),Rating Perceived Exertion(RPE),Exercise enjoyment Scale(EES)was administered during exercise and the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale(PACES)was administered after cool-down.Stroop task was performed pre-exercise and post-exercise 15min/30min,and the hemodynamic data was collected by fNIRS.It was found that although HIIT sensed higher(RPE)and(FS)during exercise,there was no difference in(EES),and the variation between HIIT and MICT was similar.PACES of HIIT is significantly lower than MICT,but they are all within a pleasant range(PACES>80).Physical activity affects the emotional experience of exercise,and there is no such difference between genders.Physical activity affects the emotional experience of exercise,and there is no such difference between genders.HIIT and MICT improved the performance of the Stroop task,but the improvement benefit of MICT was only 15 minutes in post-exercise,and the improvement effect of HIIT continued until 30 minutes after exercise.Both HIIT and MICT activate the DLPFC brain area associated with executive function.Conclusions:(1)The changes in affective response between HIIT and MICT are similar,so HIIT is considered to have good psychological flexibility.(2)HIIT’s PACES is lower than the MICT,but they are all pleasant.(3)The amount of physical activity Physical activity affects emotional response.The lower the physical activity,the lower the negative experience produced in the exercise.(4)Both HIIT and MICT can improve the performance of the executive function,moreover the improvement benefit of HIIT is more advantageous.
