Study On The College Motto In Education Function

As the guideline of educating young people in the university,school motto performs the foncation of shaping the soul of talents.Serving as the spirit guide of cultivating elits in a society,school motto carries values and convictions which accord well with the excellent traditional Chinese culture and the spirit of the times.It is the key point to cultivate and carry forward the core values of the school and undertake the great mission of educating people in particular.However,when the author made a survey into the school mottos of the 2015 Wu book top 200 and 5 universities(Fudan University,Hangzhou Dianzi University,Wenzhou University,Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Institute of water conservancy and hydroelectric power)the survey analysis reveals although these universities gradually attach more emphasis on the cultural construction of school mottos there has been an upsurge in the replacement of school mottos since the beginning of the 21 century,yet it does not cover up the fact that the current situation of school mottos at domestic universities is not optimistic.Instead of putting great importance on constructing school mottos,many universities just stay on the oral and do not fully implement its essence.Many school mottos have a series of problems of assimilation and a low degree of recognition which leads to the lack of more popularity and less function of educating people.And all this can be traced to the root of the identity of the educational function of the school mottos.Therefore,it should be a vital issue for universities to make in-depth study of the educational function of school mottos.This paper is divided into four parts.the first part starts with the connotation of school motto at universities,expounds its background,meaning and its development Then it moves on to the characteristics of stability,school motto of the times,and orientation and etc..The second part makes analysis on the influence and effect that school motto produces on teachers and students from the logical relationship between university culture and education and educational function.The third part mainly according to the present situation,it analysizes problems,puts forward the main factors influencing the educational function of university motto.It points out the social environment and the insufficient recogonition of and school mottos should be responsible for the situation.Then on the basis of the study the guide path is proposed to enhance the school mottos in universities in terms of educational function.Starting from the story of the school motto behind the motto of the characteristics of the era,the motto of the famous masters and deepen the motto of the university concept to strengthen the school motto spirit;Followed by the motto embodied in the Charter of the University,as well as the motto to meet the requirements of daily management to improve the system of education school motto;Again,starting from the school motto into the campus material environment,into the UIS University identity system,with a full range of publicity and education and to integrate University atmosphere in four aspects to improve the educational environment construction of school motto;Finally,from the leadership of the university motto spirit is lifted up,teachers of the school motto spirit of advocacy,exemplary teachers and students of the motto behavior demonstration and outstanding alumni to carry forward the spirit of the motto of several aspects to strengthen the construction of behavior culture education motto.By using the above path discussed,I am confident that the current school motto educational effect will be improved and school motto will play its unique function in the process of educating people.
