Education is not only impart knowledge,but also guide the student to use knowledge to solve practical problems,mathematics education for student's problem-solving ability has played a pivotal role,improve the students' ability to solve problems has become an important part of the overall objectives.Textbooks in the elementary school mathematics teaching material,problem solving occupies a large proportion and as grade rise,the difficulty is also increase gradually,to the fifth grade when students start learning equation to solve the problem,it is a challenge for most of the students,because this need students from arithmetic to algebraic thinking.In primary school textbooks,the main performance of the problem is to solve the word problems,often said application problems.Many studies have shown that the model method can help students solve text problems.The most realistic representative is the model method of Singapore.The China's mathematics education is the line segment diagram.Based on the current situation of Chinese primary school students using line segment diagrams to solve word problems,this study explores how students use line segment diagrams in their primary school study.What difficulties do students have in using line segments to solve text problems? What are the reasons behind these difficulties?This study choosen Shanghai Xu Hui district A-school's 60 students as investigation object,and to use the text three stage theory as the instruction the model,test method and interview method,through research and analysis,the following conclusions: 1,half of all students in the survey are often use line segment to solve the word problem,but rarely used line segment to the students to solve the problem of text proportion is very big also,and even a few students don't draw line segment.2.There are 15 types of difficulties for students to solve text problems with line segment diagrams.3.The reasons behind the difficulties can be roughly divided into six aspects.
