Biology is the study of life phenomenon and law of science,the development of biology is closely related to education.The education of school is the main way to prompt students to increase life science literacy,and the textbook is the main resource and tool for students in the school to learn step by step.This study based on the literature analysis method and comparison method to probe into China and the United States versions of high school biology textbooks from the macrostructure and microstructure two aspects,including the structure of content,content organization,system of compiling,columns,homework exercises,illustrations,introduction to comparative experiment eight parts.The study shows that both versions textbooks have something in common:they all pay attention to students'biological scientific literacy,and highlight the scientific inquiry,various columrns,apply knowledge to social life.However,they have their own characteristics.PEP materials focus on the flexible content selection is suitable for different students,content selection conforms to the students' cognitive logic,the content organization has the inherent logic of biology discipline,and the knowledge is closely connected.The Glencoe textbook has many directory for students to find easily,the depth and breadth of knowledge are higher,the homework exercises set very well.The number of experiments is large and the distribution is reasonable.At the end of the study,some pieces of advice are taken to the improvement of PEP textbook.Firstly,we should add directory sections,enhance index ability.Secondly,we should increase the number of experiments and pay attention to the balance of experiments distribution.Thirdly,we should improve the quality and quantity of homework exercises.At last,we should pay attention to the connection between junior and senior high school and increase the content of cohesion.
