ObjectiveTo investigate the distribution of personality traits, coping styles and well-being,to explore the mediating role of coping styles in the relationship between personality traits and well-being among vocational college students, and to provide reference for improving individual subjective well-being.MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted to select a vocational college in Anhui province to conduct a unified and anonymous questionnaire survey of 3,183 students in a college freshman and sophomore Luan. The study obtained informed consent of the school and students.Using the Chinese Big Five Personality Questionnaire(CBF-PI-B),adopting the Trait Coping style questionnaire(TCSQ),the Fordyce's Well-being Questionnaire were used to evaluate personality traits, coping styles and trunk tube well-being.After correcting the obvious logic error, the data was set up by Epidata 3.1,and the data were recorded and analyzed using SPSS 23.0.Using T-Test and variance analysis to compare the differences of personality, coping style and well-being among different demographic characteristics, linear regression was used to analyze the relationship between social demographic characteristics and well-being.The correlation between the 5 personality traits and coping style scores and the well-being score was correlated with Pearson correlation, and the mediating effects of the intermediary factors were examined by the bootstrap(Bootstrap)and the process software.ResultsOf the 3,183 college students surveyed, the neurotic and rigorous personality traits scored higher in females than men(27.57 vs 26.16;31.91 vs 31.74),and the human, open and extroverted personality traits scored freshman students higher than sophomores(34.55 vs 33.31;31.99 vs 30.52;30.43 vs 29.57),the differences were statistically significant(P value<0.05).Positive coping style scores, rural students higher than urban students(32.06 vs 31.85),self-rated learning performance is better than those with poor academic performance(32.25 vs 30.67),The difference was statistically significant(P value<0.05),the negative coping style was higher than that of males(28.45 vs 27.94),sophomore was higher than freshman(29.21 vs 28.17),and the difference was statistically significant(P value<0.05).In the well-being score, freshman students were higher than sophomore(7.04 vs 6.93),and self-rated family economic conditions were higher than those of self-rated families(7.12 vs 6.72),self-rated learning scores were higher than those with self-rated learning(7.08 vs 6.69).The differences were statistically significant(P value<0.05).By using Pearson correlation analysis, the correlation between the neurotic, rigorous, pleasant, open, extroverted personality traits, positive and negative coping style scores and well-being score were analyzed, and the results showed that there was a significant correlation between personality traits, coping style and subjective well-being(P-values are all <0.01).The results of bootstrap mediation effect show that the mediating effect of coping style in 5 personality traits and well-being correlation is significant(P<0.05),and the active coping style is in neurotic, rigorous, pleasant and the mediating effect in the relationship between open and extroverted personality traits and well-being is 14.93%,36.25%,26.92%,53.25% and 31.22%,respectively,and the negative coping styles are neurotic, rigorous, pleasant,The mediating effect in the relationship between open and extroverted personality traits and well-being is 34.9%,6.11%,6.64%,6.75% and 6.17%,respectively.After controlling the confounding factors, the mediating effect of positive coping style is still significant, the proportion of intermediary effect is 15.6%,39.01%,28.31%,61.46% and 33.77%;the mediating effect of negative coping style in the relationship between neurotic, pleasant, open and extroverted personality traits and well-being is still significant.the proportion of total effect was 34.5%,4.78%,8.63% and 5.28%,but the mediating effect was not significant in the relationship between rigorous personality traits and well-being(P value>0.05).ConclusionsPersonality traits are the important factors that affect subjective well-being,and coping styles play an intermediary role in the relationship between personality traits and subjective well-being.The positive coping styles increasing could help improve the subjective well-being of pleasant, open, extroverted and rigorous personality traits, and the negative coping styles decreasing could help improve the subjective well-being of the neurotic personality traits.
