Core concept teaching and HPS(an acronym for History,Philosophy and Sociology of Science,HPS)as very popular teaching hotspots in recent years,have been widely practiced and applied in science education in Western countries.In China,some scholars and teachers have carried out theoretical research on core concept teaching and HPS teaching model respectively,but no scholars have conducted systematic research on the application of HPS teaching model in biological core concept teaching.This research is an exploration and attempt on the application of HPS teaching model in biological core concept teaching under the background of "new curriculum reform" in senior high school biology.This research is a practical application study,and is roughly divided into three parts.The first part is the theoretical research.Firstly,the related theories of HPS and core concept teaching were sorted out.Then the construction strategies of core concept teaching were put forward.Finally,the theoretical basis of the application of HPS teaching model in the core concept teaching of biology was discussed.The second part is the investigation and analysis.Firstly,15 teachers and 435 students in a senior high school were selected as the research objects.Then,the attitude and views of teachers and students towards HPS teaching model in the teaching of biological core concepts were investigated and analyzed in detail by means of questionnaire survey.Finally,based on the systematic analysis of the results of the questionnaire,some suggestions were put forward to promote the teaching of biology core concepts by using HPS teaching model.The third part is the application practice.Firstly,based on the previous theoretical research and the basis of investigation and analysis,the teaching steps of core concepts based on HPS educational theory were put forward.Then the teaching model was applied to actual teaching cases,and the teaching effect was evaluated and analyzed.The following conclusions can be drawn through this practical research,First,the HPS teaching model can promote students’ understanding and absorption of the biological core concept;Second,the HPS teaching model can enhance students’ interest,cultivate students’ humanistic feelings,and improve problem-solving ability;The combination of HPS teaching model and core concept teaching can enhance students’ scientific essence and cultivate students’ critical thinking.The results of this study can provide reference and inspiration for future research on HPS teaching model and core concept teaching.
