The CFPS shows that the participation rate of tutoring education has increased year by year,and the average value of tutoring education expenditure increased nearly 1 times during four years.It can be seen that the expenditure on tutoring education is characterized by “fast growth”.This paper is intended to explore the main influencing factors of this issue.By consulting the material,it was found that few documents can answer “What are the important reasons for the rapid growth of tutoring education expenditure?” Relevant scholars have not reached a consensus conclusion on this issue.Secondly,for the analysis method,few scholars choose the sample.The resulting endogenous problems should be taken into account.Therefore,this article starts from these two aspects for analysis and research.Firstly,using the micro-panel data of the third phase of CFPS,the provincial level is used as the research unit to explore the impact of income inequality on the participation rate of tutoring education.It is concluded that the increase of income gap will enhance the demonstration effect of the choice of remedial education,and the participation rate of remedial education will be increased.Secondly,select the relevant variables and background variables such as employment competition,family economic strength,family member qualifications,etc.,and establish a two-stage alternative model of Heckman to verify whether the participation in the supplementary education expenditure and the increase in the amount of expenditure are the result of status concern;Furthermore,explore the specific impact effects of these factors.The conclusions of this paper are as follows.First,the important factor of the surge in tutoring education expenditure is the widening income gap: income inequality strengthens the motivation of status concern,which is manifested in the increase of the participation rate of tutoring education,thus education spending has grown in a rapid speed.Secondly,the increase of employment competition is an important reason for the rapid growth of tutoring education expenditure.In recent years,the number of graduates has grown rapidly,and the average level of social education has increased Under the general environment of China's economic slow down,employment is limited,which increases the employment competition furtherly.Thus,parents increase their relative competitiveness in the surrounding population by increasing the amount of tutoring education expenditure.Third,the higher the academic qualifications of family members,the greater the expenditure on family tutoring education.Fourth,family economic strength has a significant positive impact on tutoring education spending.Fifth,urban and rural types,family size,and housing prices all have different effects on family tutoring education expenditures.According to the above research results,the recommendations proposed in this paper are as follows.For the government,it is necessary to strengthen the improvement of the income redistribution policy;at the same time,the current reform of the education system should be strengthened;third,for schools,it is necessary to run schools according to the law and guarantee full teaching courses;fourth,the government should strengthen supervision of the tutoring education and training market,etc.
