Study Of The Mc Murrys' Education Theories

By the end of the 19 th century,Charles Mc Murry and Frank Mc Murry introduced the educational theory of the German Herbartian to the United States and opened up the vigorous Herbartian school movement in the United States.Under the background of the multiplication of knowledge and the rapid expansion of the number of schools,the educational communication and transformation of the Mc Murrys has undoubtedly brought a glimmer of hope to the distressing American education.The Mc Murrys combined the American Herbart thought with the American educational practice and applied it appropriately to the educational practice,which improved and developed American school education in the aspects of education aim,curriculum,teaching methods,and teacher construction etc.At the beginning of the 20 th century,all kinds of social reform movements rose,and the progressive education movement represented by Dewey stepped on the stage of history.The Mc Murrys timely acceptance of progressive education and began to focus on teacher education.The main body of the paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction.The second chapter combs the education process of the Mc Murrys in detail,which is from the experience of studying to the dissemination and transformation of Herbart's thought after returning to America and then to the change of the ideological focus under the influence of Parker and Dewey.Specifically describe the Mc Murrys' educational initiatives in the fields of educational organization,academic journals,primary education and teacher education from the practical point of view.The third chapter begins with the educational theory,combing the Mc Murrys' educational goals,children's view and interest theory,curriculum design and teaching methods.On the basis of objective evaluation of the significance and historical status of Mc Murray's education,the fourth chapter summarizes its main features and discusses its enlightenment to China's current basic education reform.
