The Influence Of Prosociality And Facial Attractiveness On Men And Women's Mate Preference

Mate selection as a complicated social,cultural and psychological phenomenon,it has become a hot researching topic in psychology and sociology in recent years.Mating preference is that people want to find a partner with certain condition.Faces are important clues to convey information,it plays an important role in mate selection.Altruism and reliance in prosociality is quite important two qualities in interpersonal relationships,however,mate selection is the final stage of the relationship-building process-stable communication stage,so altruism and reliance are very important in opposite-sex selection.By discussing the influences of prosociality to college students' mate preference,the study aims to revel the impact of prosociality in mate,broaden the research category of mating preferences,this can also help college students to form positive objective spouse-selection view and help them to adjust themselves and obtain ideal spouse.It also has a certain guiding significance to the school and social education institutions and consulting.435 college student were tests by face picture which were through strict screening and treatment as the experimental materials and using dictator games and trust game materials,with the experimental procedures designed by E-Prime program to test the Influence of prosociality and facial attractiveness on men and women's mate preference.It included two sub-studies:Study 1 was about the the Influence of altruistic behaviour and facial attractiveness on men and women's mate preference;Study 2 was about the the Influence of trustworthiness behaviour and facial attractiveness on men and women's mate preference.After the analysis of results,we found that:1.For the opposite sex those without prosocial behavior,individuals prefer the opposite sex who exhibit prosociality,and it has no gender difference.2.As for those opposite sex who is attractive in appearance,the mate desirability between male and female is the same.But as for those opposite sex who is less attractive in appearance,the mate desirability of male is less than female.3.For the long-term relationships,participants are more likely to be attracted by the quality of reliance.4.As for the opposite sexes who are more attractive in appearance and less attractive in trusting,participants are more easily to choose the short-term matedesirability.However,as for the opposite sexes who are attractive in appearance and trusting,participants are more easily to choose the long-term mate desirability.5.Compare with unprosociality,prosociality are more easily to be mates.But it is more obvious in developing in prosociality than developing in appearance,what causes synergistic effect.These results showed that(1)There is a synergistic effect between prosocial behavior and face traits.(2)Synergistic effects will be more pronounced in long-term mate selection.
