Mathematics Curriculum Standards for Senior High Shool(Edition 20117)is arrange d giving highlight to important contents,including Function,Geometry and Algebra,Stati stics and Probability.Meanwhile,it also attaches importance to mathematical application like mathematical modeling activity and mathematical investigation,with mathematical c ulture running throughout the Standards.Against this backdrop,the paper,by means of literature review,questionnaire and case study,carries out a research on the teaching and examination of Geometry and Algebra and discusses how to improve mathematical core competencies with the help of teaching and examination.The study finds that the knowledge and logical system in Geometry and Algebra are more strict and rigorous.It pays more attention to the transition from junior high to senior high schools,and from senior high schools to universities.Thus,based on the above-mentioned,the paper mainly discusses the teaching problem existing in the senior high schools and proposes some views on the teaching characteristics,teaching functions and teaching process in Geometry and Algebra lessons.And it further studies its examination questions.By employing various cases,the paper gives special attention to the examination on the six mathematical core competencies in the form of Geometry and Algebra.At the end of this paper,the summary and prospect are brought up.Also the shortcomings and further study direction are put forward.
