China,a country traditionally known for its manufacturing industry,is now vigorously pursuing innovation.Against the background,improving the capability of independent innovation is regarded as the primary task in accelerating the transformation of developing mode and,nurturing talents with practical ability and creativity is viewed as the top priority for school in transforming “quality” education to “competency” education.On Sept.13,2016,Core Competencies and Values for Chinese Students' Development was officially issued on the press conference held in Beijing Normal University.The so called students' core competencies and values actually refer to the essential characters and the key skills required for students' lifelong development and social progress.The issuance of Core Competencies and Values for Chinese Students' Development is considered as a crucial step in achieving moral education and is also the requirement for China to keep up with the trend of global education reform and improve the international competitiveness in the sphere of school education.On Dec.29,2017,the Ministry of Education issued 2017 Curriculum Standards of Music for General High school Students,setting up course objectives on the basis of improving students' core competencies and values.All this further identify the position of high school music education,give definition about the connotation of core music competencies and re-establish the curriculum evaluation system,indicating not only China's resolution to improve core competencies for students' development but also the educational target of our Party and nation.The concept of core competencies is now written into the music curriculum standards,showing that music education of China has stepped into a new era--the era of core competency cultivation.How to develop students' core competences based on the three dimensional teaching objectives? Is it possible and how to develop high school students' core competencies in music? To further explore these questions,the author goes to the high school in person,communicating with the front-line teachers and conducting researches on the methods of developing students' core competencies of music.All these methods are applied into daily teaching practice,which may be used as reference for music teaching which is aimed at improving students' core competencies.
