General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: "Cultural self-confidence is a more fundamental,deeper and more lasting force in the development of a country and a nation." Strengthening cultural self-confidence is an important task of higher education.It is an important mission of colleges and universities to cultivate college students' cultural self-confidence.The new media relying on information technology has not only changed people's way of life,but also subverted the traditional cultural communication and cultivation model.The new media which is becoming a new carrier for carrying forward cultural self-confidence provides another possibility for the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence.While the new media make up for the shortcomings of traditional media,it also brings new hidden dangers to cultural communication.Therefore,it is an important topic for us to study on how to better utilize the advantages of new media in the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence.This paper starts from the current situation of the investigation from college students' use of new media and cultural self-confidence and analyzes the influences of new media on college students' cultural self-confidence and its influencing factors.Meanwhile,the author proposes some ways to the cultivation of college students' cultural self-confidence under the new media perspective.867 college students from 7 universities which were different in disciplines and teaching level were surveyed using a combination method of stratified sampling and random sampling in this paper.The research in this paper shows that college students' awareness,usage time,frequency and degree of trust in new media are relatively high when compared with traditional media.College students are more inclined to use new media for cultural learning,such as smartphones,which are greatly favored.On the whole,the degree of cultural self-confidence of college students is at a “stronger” level,and their cultural confidence is relatively high as for students majoring in humanities and social sciences and those who are members of Students Union or the Communist Party of China;the new media has positive positive effects on the cultural confidence of college students,mainly on promoting the cultural study of college students and stimulating their love for our culture.However,as a result of the vulgarization,distortion,and one-sidedness of the spread of new media cultureas well as the over-spread of Western culture,there have appeared certain negative effects on the cultural confidence of college students.Its influencing factors can bemainly divided into two aspects: objective factors and subjective factors.Objective factors are reflected in the government's management and supervision,the allocation environment of the society,the innovation of new media means in college education and the cultural atmosphere of the family.Subjective factors are mainly reflected in the students' ability to use information technology,theirability to identifycultural information and their self-control in the face of some low-quality and vulgarentertainment culture.Therefore,combining the results of the questionnaire surveywith the goals of the cultivation on college students' cultural self-confidence,the author focuses on the promotion of new media culture education and innovation on the basis of the good new media culture environment created by the government,society and our family.Besides,the author also highlights students' role in inheritance and promotion of Chinese culture,thus enhancing college students' cultural self-confidence by way of various kinds of new media.
