Family education investment,as an important part of education investment,is one of the key factors affecting the growth and development of children and the reproduction of social stratum status.It is related to the future of the country and the hope of the nation,and to social equity and justice.At present,academia has gradually begun to attach importance to the research of family education investment.However,the research on the investment in education of children from impoverished families is relatively scarce,especially the empirical research on the investment in education of children from urban impoverished families is even scarcer.This study intends to use qualitative research methods to carry out exploratory research on the current situation of children's education investment in urban impoverished families.Specifically,based on the case interview data of 87 urban impoverished families in Jinan,this study uses grounded theory and Nvivo 11.0 software to carry out a typological analysis of the current educational investment concept of children,and summarizes the prominent characteristics of the current educational investment concept of children from these families.On the basis of the main characteristics of the investment structure of children's education in urban impoverished families,this paper explores the relevant policy suggestions to promote the investment of children's education in these families,with a view to providing empirical basis for improving the family-based social assistance system and child welfare policy.Based on the three dimensions of investment,motivation-investment expectation-investment concept,seven basic types of investment concept for children's education in urban impoverished families in China are summarized,including: student-owner leadership-higher expectation-obligation type,student-owner leadership-lower expectation-utility type,development-oriented-higher expectation-obligation type,etc.Secondly,the situation of children's educational investment concept in these families has the following basic characteristics:(1)The concept has gradually changed from “laissez-faire” to “scientific child-rearing”.The main manifestations are: the motivation of educational investment has gradually changed from school owner-oriented to development-oriented,the investment expectation has gradually changed from lower to higher,and the investment concept has gradually changed from utilitarian to compulsory;(2)The investment concept has strong passivity,blindness and fragmentation characteristics;(3)The investment motivation is mainly academic performance,skill development and lack of personality development;(4)The investment expectation is generally low,and there is no clear plan for children's future development;(5)The parents of development-oriented motivation,whose education investment concept is often compulsory.Thirdly,the investment structure of children's education in urban impoverished families in China has the following characteristics:(1)The content of investment is diversified.This is mainly manifested in the following aspects: comprehensive investment in money,diversification of material(environmental)investment,and attention paid to time-emotional investment.(2)The distribution of investment is not balanced.This is mainly reflected in the following aspects: the short-term money investment is main,long-term money investment is scarce;material(environment)investment is overall lack;time-emotional investment is overall inadequate.Finally,based on the above findings,this study puts forward the following policy recommendations:(1)At the government level: to promote the implementation of development-oriented relief policies and establish children's education development accounts;(2)At the social level: to carry out online and offline publicity activities to help strengthen parent-child education;(3)At the parent level: to actively change the concept of investment in education and encourage and support the balanced development of children.
