"Looking For Disease Sources" And "Reading Medical Books":A Study On Huang Yanpei's Educational Travel(1914-1931)

As a famous educator in modern China,Huang Yanpei advocates vocational education and plays an important role in promoting the development of modern vocational education in China and cultivating national practical talents.In 1914,Huang Yanpei began two time-concentrated,large-scale domestic educational trips,covering the three provinces of Anhui,Jiangxi,and Zhejiang in the south,and traveling in Shandong,Hebei,Beijing,Tianjin,and Shanxi in the north.These three domestic trips have made Huang Yanpei profoundly aware of the serious problem of the disconnection between China's education and social needs.In 1915,Huang Yanpei went to the United States to focus on the vocational education,remedial education and sports in the country in line with the purpose of "Internal Inspection,Looking for Disease Sources;External Inspection,Reading Medical Books."In 1917,he was assigned to Japan to focus on the education and vocational education in the country.In the Philippines,he focused on the implementation of overseas Chinese education in the country.Since then,he has traveled to Singapore,Malaysia and Indonesia to make suggestions on the handling of overseas Chinese education.After returning to China,Huang Yanpei vigorously publicized and developed vocational education thoughts,established Chinese Vocational Education Society and Chinese Vocational Schools,vigorously promoted women's vocational education,enabled women to engage in social work,vigorously promoted the development of overseas Chinese education,and established Jinan School to attract overseas Chinese children.Strengthening the relationship between overseas Chinese and the mainland;during the trip,Huang Yanpei also gradually paid attention to the problem of rural vocational education and implemented the Xugongqiao rural experiment in order to seek the establishment of local self-governing organizations and improve the lives of local people.While realizing the development of national education,Huang Yanpei also grew up.Developed vocational education thoughts and integrated with social needs;expanded social scope,provided strong external support for the development of future educational ideas and educational practice;enhanced personal sense of achievement and formed a theoretical system of vocational education.In the comparison between China and foreign countries,its patriotic enthusiasm is also constantly rising.Visiting the ancients to know the present,Huang Yanpei's educational travel activities,although viewed from the perspective of individuals,are the educational activities that Chinese intellectuals have been working hard since ancient times to achieve national progress,enhance their personal understanding and exercise their personal physique.It is of great significance to reflect the feelings and growth experiences of this group,and it is of great value to construct a new perspective of educational history research.In the context of the current national advocacy of "study travel",the study of Huang Yanpei's educational travel can give historical significance to the study travel,thus making the study travel sublimate into a comprehensive practical activity including geographical knowledge and historical knowledge.
