With the development of higher education in the United States,the types of students are diversified.Faced with students from different classes,nationalities,cultural backgrounds and different academic levels,how can they help them better adapt to university life and achieve a smooth transition to become a university student? The most important thing.This paper takes the transitional education of American university freshmen as the research object,mainly studies the historical development,form,content and characteristics of the transitional education of American university freshmen,so as to have a deeper understanding of the transition education of college freshmen in the United States and provide reference for the transition education of college freshmen in China.The transitional education of American university freshmen is constantly adjusted and improved with the development of American higher education.It is mainly divided into three periods: the germination period,the development period and the deepening period.In terms of form and content,this paper divides the transitional education of American university freshmen into three categories: admission service,academic support and extracurricular activities.Admission services include three types: orientation program,enrollment management,summer bridge;academic services include freshman seminar,supplemental instruction,library and information literacy and learning community four forms;extracurricular activities include club activities and service learning.The nine forms of the three categories involve all aspects of the new transitional education,from the beginning of the school to the beginning of the school,from the classroom to the outside of the classroom to provide students with a full range of broad-level guidance and assistance.Through the research on the form and content of transitional education for American university freshmen,this paper finds that the transitional education of American university freshmen has the characteristics of the proactive of educational intervention,the pertinence of curriculum implementation,the comprehensiveness of education guidance and the emphasis on the combination of home and school.American university freshmen transition education helps new students overcome the obstacles and difficulties in the transition from middle school to university,promotes new students to better and faster adapt to college life,improves the retention rate of freshmen and the rate of bachelor's degree,and improves the overall situation.The efficiency and quality of university personnel training has promoted the development of American higher education.Based on the above research,combined with the actual situation of the implementation of transitional education for freshmen in China,this paper puts forward the following suggestions to promote the development of transition education in China: changing the concept,increasing the importance of the transition education for new students;enriching the content and form to strengthen the depth and width of transition education for freshmen;extending the implementation time and establishing the longterm entrance education Mechanisms;establishment of specialized agencies,focusing on close cooperation between departments.
