Reading is an important means to enrich individual knowledge and skills, and an important channel to improve personal communication and understanding. For deaf students with hearing impairment, reading can not only help them acquire certain vocabulary and background knowledge, but also be the necessary ability to understand and integrate into society. At present, many deaf students use sign language as a tool to communicate with others because of hearing loss. Some studies have pointed out that there are differences between sign language and Chinese, such as "object preposition" and "subject post-position" in sign language sentences. Moreover, when deaf students enter school, they are usually bilingual people who use sign language to learn and understand Chinese. Will the unique word order of sign language affect the cognitive activities of written language of deaf students?Especially the sentence reading which is of great significance to deaf students? Therefore, this study explored the effects of sign language and Chinese word order differences on sentence reading of deaf students in primary school. In the behavioral experiment,30 deaf students in grade 4 and 6 were selected as subjects(12 in grade 4,11 in grade 5 and 7 in grade 6).The deaf students read two kinds of sentences in which sign language and Chinese word order were consistent and inconsistent, through which the deaf students read two kinds of sentences which were consistent and inconsistent with Chinese word order. The effect of word order differences on sentence reading was studied by comparing the reading time between the two types of sentences and the correct rate of post-sentence reading comprehension. The results showed that the time of reading inconsistent sentences was significantly longer than that of consistent sentences. The time of trying to read sentences in different order was influenced by the level of reading.Because the difference between sign language and Chinese word order will affect the sentence reading of deaf students in primary school, teachers should pay attention to the influence of sign language and Chinese word order difference on sentence reading of deaf students in primary school and strengthen the guidance,so as to improve the reading level of students.
