Under the education modernization reform, science education is transiting from imparting knowledge to understanding the nature of science, and students' scientific literacy has gradually become the top priority of science education in the world.Junior high school is an important transition stage, the cultivation of scientific literacy in this stage is very important.HPS education refers to the integration of History of Science,Philosophy of Science, and Sociology of Science into science courses.Through the research,we know that the inclusion of HPS education-related content in the science curriculum of school is conducive to improving the scientific literacy of primary and secondary school students. Therefore, based on the goal of cultivating students' scientific literacy, this study analyzes and compares the HPS contents in the ninth grade chemistry textbook published by the people's education of China and the chemistry volume of the American science explorer textbook, finds out the characteristics of the two editions of the textbook, and draws lessons from each other,so as to provide some Suggestions for the compilation of Chinese textbooks.Based on reading relevant literature, this study puts forward the research questions and the content, significance and object of the research, and then summarizes the related concepts and the research status domestic and overseas. The following is the design and planning of this study, including research methods, research tools and data processing and analysis examples. The main part is a comparative study on the content of HPS in Chinese and American junior high school chemistry textbooks. As the main part of this study,it is divided into five main categories for data statistics and comparative analysis. After the statistical analysis of the textbook content, this paper selected appropriate cases for qualitative analysis, and finally for the conclusion and reflection of this study. The conclusions of this study are as follows:(1)The quantity and distribution of HPS contents are uneven and should be supplemented selectivelyFrom the overall perspective of HPS content analysis,we can know that the Chinese and American versions ignore the impact of society on science and technology. As the initial stage of junior high school chemistry,it is necessary to reflect the basics of textbooks.Textbooks focus on the part of science and technology that affects society. It can make students feel that chemistry plays an important role in promoting social development and improving human life, thus enhancing students' interest in chemistry. However, the lack of social influence on science and technology tends to make students only prefer the role of chemistry to society, while ignoring the relationship between the two. From the perspective of subcategory number, some subcategories are missing. The evolution of theoretical concepts and the process of discovery of major inventions are missing from the textbooks, which are conducive to the formation of basic concepts of chemistry and should be added. The purpose of the subclass of American chemistry textbooks is consistent, and the selected materials are suitable for junior high school students.Although there is a lack of the subcategory of science and ethics, considering the psychological characteristics and thinking development level of junior high school students, the selection of materials should be more careful.Junior high school chemistry as the initial stage,to let students gradually establish the concept of advocating science, against superstition. Therefore, both Chinese and American textbooks should attach importance to the influence of science and technology on social thinking.Since there are not many chemical knowledge points involved in this category,it can be presented as auxiliary materials in the column.(2)Due to the different knowledge breadth and emphasis of HPS content, multidisciplinary integration should be emphasizedThere are more knowledge points in the textbook than in the American version.Compared with the American version, the American version emphasizes more on the theoretical system and subject knowledge, and is less practical. The knowledge points in the American version are more general and contemporary, and attach more importance to the connection between various disciplines. The focus of junior high school chemistry is not to cultivate scientists, but to improve the scientific literacy of the public. Therefore, the universality of science is an important basis for the compilation of textbooks.(3)The presentation method of HPS content is not rich enough.Update and add pictures and improve the differentiation of columnsCompared with the American version, there are more textbooks with columns, but the number of textbooks is too small from the perspective of charts. The picture materials used in human education textbooks are not as novel and colorful as those in American textbooks. Most of the columns presenting HPS content in the human education textbooks are long texts, which are not interesting and have high content similarity, failing to focus on different columns. In contrast, the columns in the American textbooks are more diversified and close to life, and the columns are highly differentiated.
