With the continuous improvement of China's international influence and cultural soft power, especially after the “Belt and Road” initiative has been proposed, more and more international students come to China for further study. These international students come from different countries, nationalities and cultures, with different religious beliefs, customs and educational backgrounds. When they move into an unfamiliar cultural context, the psychological adjustment, the learning and application of the new culture they have in this process, are cross-cultural adaptation.International students have to face not only differences between Chinese culture and their own culture, but also the difficulties brought by their identity transition from teenager to adult, and from secondary education to higher education. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the cross-cultural adaptation of international students studying in Guangzhou from three aspects, namely psychological adaptation,socio-cultural adaptation and academic adaptation. In order to study the status quo of cross-cultural adaptation of international students in Guangzhou, the reasons for the adaptation difficulties and the strategies to help them adapt better, this paper conducts an empirical study on 95 international students in GDUFS,adopting psychological adaptation scale,socio-cultural adaptation scale, and academic adaptation scale, through descriptive analysis, and variance analysis. The following is the conclusions drawn from the empirical study.First, the international students in Guangzhou are generally non-depressed,which means that their psychological adaptation is relatively good. However, the data show that some of them still have poor psychological adaptation, and this group is still the high-risk group for psychological problems.Gender and educational background have significant influence on the psychological adaptation of international students in Guangzhou, while the effect of time duration for studying in Guangzhou is not significant.Second, the difficulty of socio-cultural adaptation of students studying in Guangzhou is generally moderate. The specific problems are mainly reflected in interpersonal communication, daily life and cultural values. The educational background of international students has a significant impact on their socio-cultural adaptation, and the influence of gender and time duration on the socio-cultural adaptation of international students are not obvious.Third, the difficulty of academic adaptation of international students studying in Guangzhou is slight. The diversity of lectures taught by teachers and the extracurricular interaction activities of foreign students need to be improved.Gender and educational background have a significant impact on their academic adaptation, while the time duration difference is not significant in the academic adaptation of international students. In addition, this study puts forward some strategies mainly from the perspective of social support network, including government support, school support, students' community support and international students support, trying to facilitate their crosscultural adaptation. This paper proposes the following strategies to promote the crosscultural adaptation of foreign students: First, the government should improve the education policies and regulations of international students and expand the channels for recruiting and publicizing Chinese universities.Second, the universities should improve crosscultural psychological consultation system and professional personnel training, and strive to make the level of international education be in line with the international standards,to provide better teaching resources for international students.Third, through a variety of student organizations, various cross-cultural communication activities can be held to provide international students with support. Finally, for international students themselves, they should maintain a healthy and positive attitude, study professional cultural knowledge, and provide internal motivation for their cross-cultural adaptation.
