International students constitute an important cohort in Chinese universities andcolleges. In order for the Chinese universities and colleges to better accommodate thesignificant number of international students, it is critical to identify factors thatinfluence these students’ acculturation and adjustment processes and providedepartments in charge of international students’ administration with guidelines forcreating culturally appropriate services and programs for them.The present study is designed to investigate Norwegian international students’cross-cultural adaptation to Beijing social surroundings in relation to theiracculturation levels, coping processes and the important role of international students’office in student’s successful adaptation to the life in Beijing.The quantitative research approach and the qualitative research approach areemployed in the present study.30Norwegian international students studying inBeijing Universities participated in the research. Research questions are as follows:1. What are those factors motivating Norwegian students to study in Beijing?2. What is the status quo of the Norwegian student’s cross-cultural psychological andsocio-cultural adaptation in Beijing?3. How does the social support have an impact on Norwegian international studentswhen they adjust to Beijing social environment? And in what way can highschools best help them to achieve a successful adaptation?Based on the research findings, Implications and suggestions for future researchare discussed in the last part of this paper.
