In the research field of second language acquisition,motivation is deemed to be one of the decisive factors affecting foreign language learning.For students,their motivation for learning Chinese is the immediate cause and internal impetus of their behavior of learning Chinese.With good learning motivation,students can be encouraged to learn Chinese and maintain their activities of directional exploration and understanding for a long time,so as to effectively enhance their persistence in the process of learning Chinese and achieve good learning effects.However,the lack of learning motivation will snuff out students' enthusiasm for learning,resulting in great negative impacts.In the paper,the author,based on the study of the theory of lear ning motivation and lack of motivation at home and abroad,discusses the present situation and reasons of the lack of motivation confronting the senior high school students in Bangkok in line with Chinese teaching practices.The author conducts the survey which involves the questionnaires on and interviews with 309 students and 5 teachers in five schools in Bangkok,Thailand by virtue of the tool of The Scaling of Lack of motivation for Learning Chinese among the Senior High School Students in Bangkok,Thai land.The results show that the respondents are faced with the problem of serious lack of motivation for learning Chinese.The problem is closely related to students' cognition,intentions,attitudes and behaviors.The lack of learning motivation is also clearly reflected in the expected value,learning objectives,learning behaviors and other aspects of the students,and has no significant correlation with the students' social relations,experiences of visiting China,gender and other information.But there is a significant correlation between the lack of learning motivation and the grades of the students.The results also reflect the Bangkok senior high school students' motivation for learning Chinese can be effectively improved through Chinese teaching a nd other methods.What's more,the lack of motivation is a comprehensive,systematic and dynamic process which can not be viewed in isolation from other factors and where the relevant influencing factors should be taken into account.In terms of the conclusion of the paper,the author,based on the survey data,discusses the current situation of Chinese teaching in Thailand and causes of the lack for learning motivation among Thai senior high school students,and combines the problems found in the research to put forward the countermeasures and suggestions about how to improve the lack of motivation for learning Chinese among senior high school students in Bangkok,Thailand from the perspectives of students,teachers,schools and society.
