Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency is one of the core competences of geography, which has been widely concerned by the geographical education field. However, the connotation and structure of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency have not been completely unified yet,and the evaluation of its competency is also inadequate.Based on the structure model proposed by predecessors,it lays a theoretical foundation for understanding the connotation and structure of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency. As a qualitative evaluation method,SOLO Taxonomy has potential advantages in the evaluation of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency, which is of great significance. Therefore, this study will focus on evaluation of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency based on SOLO Taxonomy. The research content includes constructing the evaluation index system of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency, then the competency testing tools of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency were compiled;next, the scoring standard of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency based on SOLO Taxonomy was established;finally, the competency testing tools was applied to the field test. The specific research process and conclusions are as follows:First of all,the preparation of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency test tools. On the basis of the literature research, the Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency structure of "three dimensions and eight levels" was divided.According to the developed evaluation index system,a subjective competency testing tools of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency composed of "four subjects and eight questions" was formed.Secondly, the scoring standard of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency based on SOLO Taxonomy was developed.According to the scoring standard and the competency testing tools, and "three characteristics" and "five structures" of the theory in compiling the scoring standard, the standards corresponding to eight specific questions(first draft)were compiled.Through testing, the quality of the competency testing tools was analyzed, and the questions and scoring standards were revised as necessary,so as to form the testing tools(competency testing tools and scoring standards(final draft))which are suitable for further use.Finally,115 students from a high school in Shanghai were selected to participate in the assessment of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency based on SOLO Taxonomy. The result shows that the competency testing tools and scoring standards are of high quality, which could evaluate students' Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency better. The overall level of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency of the sample students is above the average level, and the thinking structure is mostly at the level of Multi-structure and Relational structure, and a small number of students are considered to have reached the level of Extended abstract structure.Based on the research process and conclusion, this paper discussed the theoretical and empirical research verifying the structure of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency, the dialectical view of SOLO Taxonomy and other issues, and put forward the prospect of strengthening the evaluation of Geo-Spatial Thinking Competency.
