As one of Africa's largest economies and one of the most influential countries,South Africa launched the mathematics literacy curriculum in the high school in 2006,which is paralleling with mathematics curriculum, the establishment of South Africa's mathematics literacy curriculum has attracted worldwide attention.Unlike the mathematical literacy defined by the international community,South Africa's mathematics literacy curriculum is mainly to shorten the gap between national mathematics level in South Africa and improve the basic ability of citizens to solve real life problems. This study explores the South African high school mathematics literacy curriculum, including the emergence and development of the curriculum, the objectives, content and evaluation methods of the curriculum, focusing on the content and teaching design.Because there are many thematic modules of the Mathematical Literacy Curriculum in South Africa, this paper mainly focuses on statistical knowledge(the subject of data processing),and explores the content, teaching design and characteristics of the corresponding subject modules in the syllabus. This paper is divided into five parts. The first chapter is to explain the emergence and development of the South African mathematics literacy curriculum. From a historical perspective,it reviews the development of South African education reform during the apartheid period and postapartheid period,in order to find the development rules of the South African mathematics literacy curriculum. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the reasons for the emergence of the South African Mathematical Literacy Curriculum and the purpose of the curriculum. The second chapter is the analysis of the objectives and evaluation requirements of the South African high school mathematics literacy curriculum, including the general requirements for the South African mathematics curriculum and the specific curriculum evaluation requirements for the mathematics literacy curriculum. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the performance requirements of the South African Mathematical Literacy Curriculum for the selected students. And research on the way that is evaluated. The third chapter is the introduction of the basic content of the South African Mathematical Literacy Curriculum and the specific content of its statistical knowledge. The purpose of this chapter is to grasp the structure of the South African Mathematical Literacy Curriculum and to pave the way for the next chapter of the teaching design research. The fourth chapter is based on the statistical knowledge content of the South African Mathematical Literacy Curriculum.Through the mathematics literacy course textbook and teacher manual, exploring the three knowledge module teaching designs in the statistical theme. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the contextualized teaching process of the South African high school mathematics literacy course..The fifth chapter is from the theoretical and practical levels to analyzes and summarizes the mathematics literacy curriculum in South Africa.
