Scientific modeling is an important part of the key competences of physics.The Curriculum Standard for Ordinary High Schools(2017)puts forward new requirements for high school physics teaching.It requires students to have the awareness and ability to construct models.This thesis discusses on the framework for evaluating the modeling ability of the physics discipline,based on which the evaluation tool is developed and evaluated.This study also evaluates the level of physical modeling ability of high school students.The physical model is divided into four categories: description,interpretation,prediction and control.From the perspective of constructivism,the modeling ability is divided into three dimensions: way of facing,conceptualization and operative work.Combining constructivism with the four categories,a framework for evaluating the modeling ability of the physics discipline is developed.Then,this thesis develops the evaluation tool by original physical problems and modifies it after the preliminary survey.The sample of the official test is 140 students of grade 10 and 11 from a high school in Shanghai.According to the data obtained from empirical research,the physical modeling ability of high school students is analyzed.Based on this,the evaluation tool of this study is evaluated for quality and function.The conclusions of this study are as follows.The evaluation framework of physical modeling ability is validated,and its Cronbach's alpha exceeds 0.8.The quality of the measurement tool is relatively good,as the quality indicators such as the difficulty,discrimination,reliability and validity of the test are in line with expectations.The function of the measurement tool is comprehensive,because the level of physical modeling ability of high school students can be effectively evaluated from three aspects: the overall features,dimensional features and group features.The study shows that the overall level of physical modeling ability of high school students is low,especially the abilities to conceptualize events,to distinguish the relations between variables and to use symbolic languages.The modeling ability of students varies significantly with grade,gender and examination situation.The thinking set caused by traditional teaching is mainly reflected in the three modeling abilities mentioned above.This thesis puts forward suggestions that the design of modeling instruction should focus on the cultivation of these three modeling abilities and be combined with the original physical problems.
