A Survey On The Employment Status Of Highly Proficient Basketball Athletes In Hunan Colleges And Its Countermeasure

With China's current economy growing rapidly and reaching a new normal status,the number of jobs provided by the job market is approaching saturation.In contrast,the number of college graduates and the students on campus reaches a peak,thanks to the continuous expansion of enrollment which is directly leading to difficulties in employment and making money for college graduates.In colleges,there are also a special group of students who are admitted because of their excellent athletic talents.Though they are faced with the same employment difficulties as ordinary students,they have their own unique problems in finding a job because of their special majors.The hardship of employment not only affects the benefits of these high-level athletes,but also damage the healthy development of competitive sports as well as the cultivation of reserve sports talents,and therefore,becomes a social focus.Failure in resolving this issue properly will be obstacles in the progress of building a sports power in China.This study takes the graduates of high-level basketball players in Hunan colleges in the past three years as the subjects,using scientific research methods,such as literature data,questionnaires,interviewing,and mathematical statistics to investigate their employment status which includes the employment rate(with different genders and different sports levels),positions,employment factors,problems and solutions in finding jobs.The results are as follows:(1)The employment rate is affected by the factors of gender and sports level.The higher the sports level,the higher the employment rate.However,the employment situation is not optimistic in that the female employment rate is 10.1%lower than that of male athletes,and their work is less connected with the basketball major.(2)The percentages of main working positions are: private sector,40.21%,clubs,13.04%,further study,11.95%,education,10.68%,and there are a small number of people start their own businesses.Among them,women generally choose relatively stable positions,while men tend to choose professional and challenging positions;(3)74% basketball majors choose Changsha or cities around Changsha as their employment locations.Few people go to work outside Hunan province.This may be related to the city's talent introduction policy in recent years.(4)There is also a higher correlation between the employment position and the sports level.The higher the professional level,the more inclination of engaging in basketball-related work;(5)Among those who have been employed,32.98% of them express dissatisfaction with the current working status,and some of them add that their knowledge learned at colleges doesn't qualify them with the current work.(6)There are many factors influencing the employment of high-level basketball players in colleges and universities in Hunan Province.They are gender,sports level,severe employment market,employer's prejudice,impractical training mode for high-level basketball players,and athletes' own employment attitude and their career planning,etc.
