| The development of higher education for students with disabilities is a product of the continuous improvement of human social productivity and civilization.It is also an important symbol of the material civilization,spiritual civilization and national quality of a country and a region.After nearly 40 years of development,higher education for students with disabilities has been formed a fixed pattern.In this context,inclusive education in higher education(abbreviated as inclusive setting),special education college or class(abbreviated as exclusive setting)as well as adult and distance education are recognized basis,backbone and supplementary respectively.Students in inclusive setting and in exclusive setting have been the most popular two placement patterns for college students with disabilities.In order to explore educational experience of students with disabilities,and analyze current existing problems in the two different higher education settings,this qualitative phenomenological study was conducted by using interview,content analysis and observation methods.It offered an understanding of the educational experience of 13 students with disabilities in inclusive setting and 8 others in exclusive setting.This study mainly includes the following parts:Firstly,research background and purpose and significance of the study have been discussed,and definition of key terms have been clearly explained in the first part.Secondly,literature on higher education for students with disabilities at home and abroad have been reviewed in the second part.Thirdly,research design including purpose,methodology,procedures,validity and reliability and ethical considerations have been explicitly introduced in the third part.Fourthly,research findings have been shown.Students with disabilities have to take part in Gaokao to be enrolled by inclusive universities and Independent recruitmentto enter in exclusive educational environment.Students in inclusive setting have more major choices,compared with students in exclusive setting who are faced with many restrictions.In terms of educational process,students in inclusive environment are confronted with numerous difficulties because of lacking auxiliary aids and services,however,it is more easier for students in exclusive setting to finish academic assignments.For interpersonal interaction,most of students in inclusive setting have developed harmonious relationship with their peers without disabilities,but students in exclusive setting tend to jointly hold together with their classmates with same disabilities.By participating in social practice activities,students in inclusive education have achieved all-round development,but students in exclusive setting are likely to be unsatisfied with this part of their university life and feel that they have gained little from it.When it comes to educational results,current reasonable accommodation of final examination can basically meet the needs of students in inclusive environment.Meanwhile,students in exclusive environment have been provided with more accessible examination adjustment.After graduation from universities,some students in inclusive setting choose to further study and get a master or Ph.D degree,but students in exclusive setting have been facing with a dilemma of "no way to go".Students both in the two different environment all have found it difficult to land a job.In retrospect,students in inclusive education highly valued higher education and think that they have gained comprehensive improvement,and students in exclusive environment consider that they have learned how to do self-acceptance better.Finally,based on conclusions,some suggestions have been put forward aimed at educational and administrative department in macro level,universities in middle level and students with disabilities in micro level,to discuss how to improve the development of higher education for students with disabilities and to provide high-quality higher education for everyone. |
