The Westernization Movement,which flourished in the 1960 s and 1990 s,opened the path of modern transformation of traditional Chinese education and promoted the change of traditional Chinese moral education.The new forms of education during the Westernization Movement mainly include the Westernization School,the education of Chinese students who studied abroad,and the church school.Moral education of the new-style education during the Westernization Movement played an important role in shaping students' moral quality and forming values.The research on the situation of the moral education in the new-style education during the Westernization Movement is of great significance for clarifying the situations of moral education in the late Qing Dynasty and enriching the history of modern Chinese ideological and moral education.This article explores the changes of social moral values during the Westernization Movement and research the moral education of the new-style education during the Westernization Movement under the political,economic and cultural background in the late Qing,based on the literature analysis method,historical analysis method and interdisciplinary analysis method.The article summarizes the goals,contents and methods of moral education in the new-style education of the Westernization Movement.For the goal of moral education,the purpose of moral education in the Westernization School is to conserve the traditional Confucian ethics of students,so that students can obey the Confucianism and be polite,avoiding foreign ethos due to Western learning.The purpose of moral education for the students who were studying abroad is to cultivate students with the moral qualities advocated by traditional Confucian ethics and become loyal citizens,avoiding students studying abroad and forgetting their ancestors.Moral education in church schools aims to promote religious beliefs and pay attention to the development of students' religious virtues.For the content of moral education,the content of moral education in the Westernization School mainly includes the urging of students' academics,the requirements for students' good conduct,the guidance of students' daily behaviors,and the guidance for students' healthy living and development;For the moral education content of the students who were studying abroad,more emphasis is placed on loyalty and patriotism,respecting for the education of the monarch and the education of keeping in mind the rules of the country.The moral education content of the church school mainly focuses on the religious teachings,paying attention to the religious virtues of the students.At the same time,it also pays attention to the education of literature and art,and guides the coordinated development of Intellectual education and moral education.For the method of moral education,the method of moral education in the Westernization School includes three kinds of moral education: the moral education from the Chinese teacher,the moral guidance in the form of moral record book and academic records of students,the moral education through the school regulations and the ritual ceremony.The moral education for the Chinese students who were studying abroad is realized through the moral education guidance of the Chinese supervising teachers,the moral education of American teachers and residential families.
