| Objective:The effects of Baduanjin on body shape, physiology and mental health has been widely confirmed, but the characteristics of the positive effects in the central nervous system are still unclear. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the characteristics of brain’s activity during the exercise of Baduanjin,as well as the impact of the acute and long-term Baduanjin exercises on EEG signals. Methods:The study finally included 19 subjects.Select 10 male college students who do not have any experience in Baduanjin and related training, and categorize them as the control group;9 who have more than two years of experience in the Baduanjin’s training, classified as the Baduanjin group. The inter-group design and repeated measurements within the group were used to collect the resting state and the Baduanjin task through the German ANT Neuro device.MATLAB was used to extract the power values of brains in different groups under different tasks and draw the EEG topographic map under different tasks.Besides, the corresponding percentages and derivative indexes were calculated.Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS18.0.The independent sample T test was used for comparison between groups. The intra-group comparison uses a non-parametric test or a paired sample T test based on its normal distribution. There was a significant difference as a result of P < 0.05.Results:1.Character recognition of EEG signals during the practice of Baduanjin: During the practice of Baduanjin, from “1” to “5”,the total power of the whole lead is lower, and the change is not obvious. When the practice of “6”,the power is increased to the highest power value, and then decreased. At the time of the closing, the total power value is higher than the starting trend.According to the EEG topographic map,the above results were mainly due to changes in brain activity in the left parietal lobe,Left posterior temporal lobe, and central regions.Among them, the change of δ wave is obvious, mainly in frontal lobe, left parietal lobe, left posterior temporal lobe, and central area;the change of θ wave is weak; The changes of all functional areas of the brain can be seen;the changes of β wave are obvious, mainly in the left frontal lobe and the occipital lobe.2.The impact of acute Baduanjin exercise on EEG signals:The power values of δand α waves in the total lead and their percentages increase, and the power values of θ and β waves and their percentages decrease. The percentage of the power value of the δ wave decreased in the posterior frontal and left central regions, and the other brain regions increased. The percentage of the power value of θ wave on each region decreased, and significantly in the right middle and right front temporal lobe,P<0.05;α wave decreased in the posterior temporal lobe, other brain regions increased, and the left prefrontal lobe increased significantly,P<0.05;β wave in each region decreased,in the left middle leaf, the central top area, the posterior temporal lobe, right apical lobe and occipital lobe,P<0.05.3.The impact of long-term Baduanjin exercise on EEG signals:δ,θ,α,and βwave power values of the Baduanjin group in the whole lead were higher than those in the control group. The percentages of δ,θ,and α wave power values were lower than those of the control group. The percentage of power value of β wave was higher than that of the control group. The percentage of power value of β wave was significantly different from that of the control group,P<0.05.Compared with the control group, the percentage of the power value were lower in the lobes except the δ wave right prefrontal lobe, right posterior temporal lobe, right central parietal lobe,Parietal lobe and occipital lobe,θ wave frontal lobe,α wave frontal lobe, left central lobe, left central parietal lobe left posterior temporal lobe.βwave was higher than that of the control group in the right parietal lobe and left posterior temporal lobe had significant difference,P<0.05.4.The impact of Baduanjin exercise on EEG signals derivative indicators:After the acute Baduanjin exercise, the degree of(ln[Rightα]-ln[Leftα])was basically unchanged, and the(α/β)increased.Compared with the control group, the degree of(ln[Rightα]-ln[Leftα])in the Baduanjin group was higher, but the(α/β)was lower. Conclusions:During the practice of Baduanjin, the brain can be transformed into Qigong state to varying degrees, and the “6” movement of Baduanjin makes the whole brain more active.Acute Baduanjin exercise can reduce the excitability and arousal level of the body, causing fatigue in the body to a certain extent, but no significant effect on the body’s emotional adjustment ability.Long-term practice of Baduanjin can improve the excitability of the body, the arousallevel, the efficiency of brain work, and the body’s emotional adjustment ability to a certain extent. |
