Based on the requirements of recent national curriculum reform and environmental protections,the author chose Erhai Lake conservation,a hot topic of environmental protection in China at present,to develop a school-based curriculum of“Erhai Lake conservation” in Xiaguan No.1 Middle School.This curriculum was divided into five chapters: Erhai Lake-Pearl on the Plateau,Water Environment Change of Erhai Lake,Wetland-Kidney of the Earth,Erhai clear then Dali prosperous,and Protecting Our Common Home.The teaching forms,such as lectures of special topic,experimental research,practical activities,and competitions were adopted in the teaching process.This curriculum scored 84 in the evaluation of peer teachers,and average students' scores increased significantly from 72 to 81.This curriculum was in line with the basic national policy of “national strategy of ecology” in the new period of China,and was also beneficial to the Erhai Lake conservation project of Dali Prefecture.Meanwhile,the curriculum was also in accordance with demands of a multi-leveled and multi-formed teaching reform of school-based curriculum.The curriculum not only broadened students' horizons,stimulated their interest in learning,and promoted their personality growth,but also greatly improved their learning efficiency.Moreover,the curriculum enhanced students' core accomplishment of disciplines and awareness of environmental protection.The characteristics and innovations of this curriculum lay in:(1)expanding the curriculum resources of Erhai Lake conservation;(2)carrying out fruitful attempts in combining various teaching forms;(3)reflecting objectives of curriculum and teaching,namely,“improving students' core accomplishment of disciplines”.In the future,this curriculum can be improved by strengthening the cooperation with teachers of other subjects,by enhancing the interaction between the teachers and students,and by seeking more supports from school and social resources.
