The state has been vigorously promoting the development of social work,which provides many opportunities for the professional development of social workers in mainland China.Meanwhile,it brings many difficulties and challenges to their career development.From the perspective of problem,past researches focus on the dilemma of social workers' career development.At the same time,there are still a group of social workers who have made persistent efforts and continuous improvement and become an example of the industry.The reason why these social workers are willing and able to persist is to provide references for young social workers,the organizations and the industry.Therefore,this study selected 35 excellent social workers in Guangdong from 2012 to2016 as the research object.The research issues are as follows: why these excellent social workers choose to enter the industry? What is the process of their career development?What social support helps them through the difficulties of career development?which is generally experienced by social workers? Does these support play an equally important role in different periods of career development?For this purpose,semi-structured interviews,communication surveys and literature collection methods were used to collect data,and files were archiving,coding,classifying,describing,synthesizing and summarizing by means of continuous approach and comparative analysis.Then the research draws conclusions as follows:Firstly,excellent social workers has generally gone through four periods in the course of their career development,including career choice period,career adaptation period,careergrowth period and career bottleneck period.Secondly,excellent social workers will encounter various difficulties and challenges in the process of career development,but their good external support and positive self support can help them continue to persist.Thirdly,the support which plays a key role in the outstanding social workers' occupation development are different in different periods.The policy has the most direct impact on the occupation choice;the support from organizations is the most important factors promoting occupational adaptation;family support is the key whether social workers can achieve occupation growth;and self support is the basics of breaking through the occupation bottleneck.Accordingly,in order to strengthen the construction of social work personnel and attract more social workers keep continuous development in the industry,the author suggests that we should pay attention to the following aspects: strengthening policy advocacy,attaching importance to social work values and professional identity education,establishing equal and respectful organizational culture,giving social workers supervision and training support,and encouraging social workers to improve their own capabilities and comprehensive quality.
