Survey On The Usage Of We Chat And Cross-cultural Adaptation For International Students In China

Cross-cultural adaptation refers to the degree to which a soaker understands or adopts the local concepts,values and behaviors.It can be divided into four stages: honeymoon period,crisis period,recovery period and adaptation period.With the continuous increase of the number of students studying in China,the cross-cultural adaptation of foreign students in China has gradually become an important research topic in the field of cross-cultural communication.Among the factors influencing crosscultural adaptation,social support plays an irreplaceable positive role.With the rise of the Internet era,the concept of network social support has also been derived,which includes information support,emotional support,communication support and tool support.At the same time,WeChat,as the first world-class Internet product in China,has created an acquaintance field that spreads information rapidly,playing an increasingly important role in the daily life of international students in China and becoming a major source of online social support for international students.This paper uses the combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods,and takes the social support network as intermediate variable,through the questionnaire survey and case interview of the overseas students in three 211 universities in wuhan,this paper analyzes the status of the network social support obtained by the overseas students using WeChat,and explores the influence of the use of WeChat on their cross-cultural adaptation.This paper,as an exploratory survey,is expected to open up a road or indicate the direction for the subsequent research and put forward relevant countermeasures to improve the cross-cultural adaptation level of foreign students in China.The findings are as follows: 1.The overall situation of overseas students using WeChat is good,which is mainly reflected in the autonomy and high frequency utilization of WeChat exposure;2.The newly established WeChat network for international students in China mainly focuses on international students from other countries who are also sojourners,but there is little communication with local people;3.Students of different gender,age and time in China have different degrees of network social support;4.In terms of types of network social support,WeChat plays an obvious role in communication support and information support for overseas students in China,while it is relatively insufficient in emotional support.5.The use of WeChat plays a significant role in promoting the social life adaptation,interpersonal communication adaptation and learning adaptation of international students in China,but it has certain limitations in providing emotional comfort and effective information for international students.On the basis of the research findings,this paper puts forward the following suggestions for strengthening the students' acquisition of social support through network and the level of cross-cultural adaptation: 1.Organize Chinese language competitions and cultural publicity activities;2.Set up intercultural communication and Chinese culture courses;3.Improve the information service level of international student management department.
